Answer: R = 0.131 m

Explanation: The formulae for the distance between a fringe and the first (center) is given by

y = R×mλ/d

Where y = distance between first and nth fringe = 4mm = 4×10^-3m

λ = wavelength of light = 441.1nm = 441.1×10^-9m

R = distance between slits and screen =?

d = distance between slits = 0.29mm = 2.9×10^-4m

4×10^-3 = R ×2 ×441.4×10^-9/ 2.9×10^-5

Hence R = (4×10^-3) ×(2.9×10^-5)/2×441.4×10^-9

R = 1.16 × 10^-7/8.828×10^-7

R = 1.16/8.828

R = 0.131 m

A diffraction grating has 500 slits/mm. What is the longest wavelength of light for which there will be a third-order maximum?
Alexxandr [17]

Answer:

The longest wavelength of light is 666.7 nm

Explanation:

The general form of the grating equation is

mλ = d(sinθi + sinθr)

where;

m is third-order maximum = 3

λ is the wavelength,

d is the slit spacing (m/slit)

θi is the incident angle

θr is the diffracted angle

Note: at longest wavelength, sinθi + sinθr = 1

λ = d/m

d = 1/500 slits/mm

λ = 1 mm/(500 *3) = 1mm/1500 = 666.7 X 10⁻⁶ mm = 666.7 nm

Therefore, the longest wavelength of light is 666.7 nm

For the PE formula, why is the height required for calculations? Why do we need to know the height in order to determine PE? *
Fudgin [204]

Answer:

Answer in Explanation

Explanation:

Whenever we talk about the gravitational potential energy, it means the energy stored in a body due to its position in the gravitational field. Now, we know that in the gravitational field the work is only done when the body moves vertically. If the body moves horizontally on the same surface in the Earth's Gravitational Field, then the work done on the body is considered to be zero. Hence, the work done or the energy stored in the object while in the gravitational field is only possible if it moves vertically. This vertical distance is referred to as height. This is the main reason why we require height in the P.E formula and calculations.

The derivation of this formula is as follows:

Work = Force * Displacement

For gravitational potential energy:

Work = P.E

Force = Weight = mg

Displacement = Vertical Displacement = Height = h

Therefore,

P.E = mgh

It is easier to see clothes with pointed needle than a blunt one
topjm [15]

Answer:

Explanation:

It is easier to see clothes with pointed needle than a blunt one because pressure exerted is more in a pointed needle as it occupies less space compared to blunt needle, A blunt has more surface area so the pressure exerted will less as compared to a pointed needle.
