A three-point bending test was performed on an aluminum oxide specimen having a circular cross section of radius 6.7 mm; the spe

cimen fractured at a load of 2710 N when the distance between support points was 41 mm. Another test is to be performed on a specimen of this same material, but one that has a square cross section of 19 mm in length on each edge. At what load would you expect this specimen to fracture if the support point separation is maintained at 41 mm?

Answer:

at load 13114.85 N beam fail

Explanation:

given data

radius r = 6.7 mm

load = 2710 N

distance = 41 mm

length  = 19 mm

to find out

At what load we expect this specimen to fracture

solution

we will first flexural strength that is

flexural strength = load × distance  / πr³

flexural strength = 2710 × 41 ×10^{-3}  / π(6.7 ×10^{-3})³

flexural strength = 117.592 MPa

we know that for cross section specimen

flexural strength = 3load × distance  / 2bd²

put here these value

117.592 × 10^{6} N/m² = 3 load × 41 ×10^{-3} / ( 2 × (19×10^{-3})³)

load = 117.592  × 10^{6} × ( 2 × (19×10^{-3})³) /  ( 3 × 41 ×10^{-3} )

load = 13114.85 N

so at load 13114.85 N beam fail

Answer:

1.The force required to stop the shopping cart is, F = 12.25 N

Explanation:

Given data,

The mass of the shopping cart, m = 7 kg

The initial velocity of the shopping cart, u = 3.5 m/s

The final velocity of the shopping cart, v = 0 m/s

The time period of acceleration, t = 2 s

The change in momentum of the cart,

                                      p = m(u - v)

                                         = 7 (3.5 - 0)

                                         = 24.5 kg m/s

The force is defined as the rate of change of momentum. To stop the shopping cart, the force required is given by the formula

                                           F = p / t

                                               = 24.5 / 2

                                               = 12.25 N

Hence, the force required to stop the shopping cart is, F = 12.25 N

2.

We have: F = m × v/t

Here, m = 8500 Kg

v = 20 m/s

t = 10 s

Substitute their values into the expression,

F = 8500 × 20/10

F = 8500 × 2

F = 17000 N

In short, final answer would be 17000 N

Hope this helps!!

A car that experiences no frictional force is started and caused to move. For the car to continue in that motion, the gas pedal
Masteriza [31]

1) Answer D not at all

The car is not experiencing any frictional force so that implies that there is no force acting on the car once it starts motion. So, according law of inertia, the car will continue to move and no other force is required.

Friction force is the resistance force that opposes the motion of any object. It arises due to the contact of surfaces.

2) Answer C none

There is no force on any spaceship moving far from any planet. So, according to law of inertia the spacecraft will continue to move at same speed.

Law of inertia states that any object keeps in the state of motion or rest unless a non zero external force is applied on it.
