The nucleus!! This is made up of protons and neutrons that each weigh about 1 amu.

Electrons are not found in the nucleus and weigh almost nothing so chemistry in school doesn’t bother with them :)

Determine the oxidation number of each element in these compounds or ions. (a) au2(seo4)3 (gold(iii) selenate) au = se = o = (b)
Stels [109]
                                                    Au₂(SeO₄)₃

                                         O = -2 × 4 = -8
                                             Se  =  + 6
So,
                                            (+6 - 8) = -2

Means (SeO₄) contains -2 charge, Now multiply -2 by 3

                                             -2 ₓ 3 = -6
Means,
                             Au₂ + (-6) = 0

                            Au₂  = +6
Or,
                            Au  =  6 / 2

                            Au  = +3
Result:
                            Au  =  +3
                            Se  =  +6
                            O   =  -2

                                                      Ni(CN)₂

Cyanide (CN⁻) contains -1 charge,
So,
                              N  =  -3
                              C  =  +2
Then,
                                         Ni + (-1)₂  =  0

                                               Ni - 2  =  0
Or,
                                                     Ni =  +2
Result:
                            N  =  -3
                            C  =  +2
                           Ni  =  +2

In a titration of 0.5 M HCl and an unknown concentration NaOH, 25.0 ml of NaOH was required to completely neutralize 25.0 ml of
baherus [9]
When an acid is neutralized by a base, that means moles of H+ = moles of OH-

moles of H+ = 0.5 M * 0.025 L HCl = 0.0125 moles H+

moles of OH- should be equal to 0.0125 moles, so
0.0125 moles = (x) * 0.025 L NaOH

x is the concentration of NaOH, which we want to find.

x = 0.5 M

The correct answer is C) 0.5 M.

What relationship exists between the mass number of an element and the isotopes of that element?
labwork [276]
The mass number plays an important role for elements and their isotopes. Mass number comes from the addition of protons and neutrons (their weight). Isotopes are the elements, but with a different number of neutrons. So in turn, by subtracting the number of protons (atomic number) from the mass, you can find the number of neutrons.

Given each pair, complete the sentences to determine which member of each has the stronger intermolecular dispersion forces.
evablogger [386]

Answer:

CH3CH2CH2Cl

CH3CH2CH2CH2CH2SH

Br2

Explanation:

Dispersion forces increases with increase in relative molecular mass. The specie having the greater relative molecular mass definitely has greater dispersion forces. A rough estimation of the relative molecular masses of the species stated in the answer will reveal this fact.
