High-density polyethylene may be flourinated by inducing the random substitution of Flourine atoms for hydrogen. (a) Determine t
Lemur [1.5K]

Answer:

Concentration of Flourine = 24.756%

Explanation:

Given that :

High-density polyethylene may be flourinated by inducing the random substitution of Flourine atoms for hydrogen.

the objective is to determine he concentration of Flourine (in wt%) that must be added if this substitution occurs for 12% of all the original hydrogen atoms.

At standard conditions , the atomic weight of the these compounds are as follows:

Carbon = 12.01 g/mol

Chlorine = 35.45 g/mol

Fluorine = 19.00 g/mol

Hydrogen = 1.008 g/mol

Oxygen = 16.00 g/mol

The chemical formula for polyethylene = (CH₂ - CH₂)ₙ

Therefore, for two carbons, there will be 4 hydrogens;

i.e

(CH₂ - CH₂)₂

( C₂H₄ - C₂H₄ )

Suppose the number of original hydrogen = 4moles

number of moles of Flourine F = 12% of 4

= 0.12 × 4

= 0.48 mol

∴ the number of remaining moles of Hydrogen is:

= 4 - 0.48

= 3.52 moles

number of moles of Carbon = 2 moles

∴ the mass of flourine F = number of moles of F × molar mass of F

= 0.48 × 19

= 9.12

The total mass of the compound now is = (0.48 × 19 ) + (3.52 × 1) + (2× 12)

= 9.12 + 3.52 + 24

= 36.64

Concentration of Flourine = (mass of flourine/total mass) × 100

Concentration of Flourine = (9.12/36.84 ) × 100

Concentration of Flourine = 0.24756 × 100

Concentration of Flourine = 24.756%

draw the organic product formed when 1−hexyne is treated with h2o, h2so4, and hgso4. click the draw structure button to launch t
V125BC [204]

The organic product formed when 1−hexyne is treated with H₂O, H₂SO₄, and HgSO₄ will be 2-hexanone (structure attached).

This reaction is an example of an oxymercuration reaction of the organic product 1−hexyne.

Oxymercuration is shown in three steps to the right. The nucleophilic double bond attacks the mercury ion, releasing an acetoxy group. The mercury ion's electron pair attacks carbon on the double bond, generating a positive-charged mercuronium ion. Mercury's dxz and 6s orbitals give electrons to the double bond's lowest unoccupied molecular orbitals.

In the second stage, the nucleophilic H₂O attacks the highly modified carbon, freeing its mercury-bonding electrons. Electrons neutralize mercury ions by collapsing. Water molecules have positive-charged oxygen.

In the third stage, the negatively charged acetoxy ion released in the first step attacks the hydrogen of the water group, generating the waste product HOAc. The two electrons in the oxygen-hydrogen link collapse into oxygen, neutralizing its charge and forming alcohol.

Identify two acids and two bases that you use or come into contact with in an average week. Identify uses for each substance.
skelet666 [1.2K]

Explanation:

Two acids we come into contact with in an average week

  1. Vinegar is an 10% solution of acetic acid (CH_3COOH)in water. Used in salad dressing and while cooking food. It has a sour taste.
  2. Citric acid present in fruits and vegetables like : lemons, orange, tomatoes etc. It is a weak organic acid with sour taste.

Two bases we come into contact with in an average week.

  1. Baking soda (NaHCO_3) is used in baking food like: cakes, cookies, breads. Baking soda is one of the ingredient while baking breads and cakes.
  2. Caustic soda (NaOH) is used for preparation of detergents, papers , soaps etc. We use soaps and detergents for washing.
