A steady-flow compressor is used to compress helium from 15 psia and 70°F at the inlet to 200 psia and 600°F at the outlet. The

outlet area and velocity are 0.01 ft2 and 100 ft/s, respectively, and the inlet velocity is 54 ft/s. Determine the mass flow rate and the inlet area. The gas constant of helium is R = 2.6809 psia·ft3/lbm·R.

Answer:

mass flow rate = 7,04*10^-2 Lbm/s

Inlet area= 0,123 ft^2

Explanation:

The explanation can be found in the attached picture

The mass flow rate and the inlet area were calculated under the assumption that the Helium gas behaves as an ideal gas.

A drop of water with a mass of 0.48 g is vaporized at 100 ∘C and condenses on the surface of a 55- g block of aluminum that is i
bagirrra123 [75]

The final temperature in Celsius of the metal block is 49°C.

<h3>How to find the number of moles ?</h3>

Moles water = \frac{\text{Given mass}}{\text{Molar Mass}}

                     = \frac{0.48\ g}{18\ \text{g/mol}}

                     = 0.0266 moles

Heat lost by water = 0.0266 mol x 44.0 kJ/mol

                                = 1.17 kJ

                                = 1170 J           [1 kJ = 1000 J]

Heat lost = Heat gained

Heat gained by aluminum = 1170 J

1170 = 55 x 0.903 (T - 25) = 49.7 T - 1242

1170 + 1242 = 49.7 T

T = 48.5°C (49°C at two significant figures)

Thus from the above conclusion we can say that The final temperature in Celsius of the metal block is 49°C.

Pre-lab questions 1. a concentration gradient affects the direction that solutes diffuse. describe how molecules move with respe
VLD [36.1K]

Just like how heat moves from a region of higher temperature to a region of lower temperature, molecules also tend to move from a region of higher concentration to a region of lower concentration. This is called natural diffusion and is naturally happening to reach stability.
