Write the slope-intercept form of the equation of the line described by (−1, −1), parallel to y = −2x − 4
LuckyWell [14K]

Answer:

y = -2x - 3

Step-by-step explanation:

Slope intercept form of line is

y = mx + c

where

m is the slope and c is the y intercept

________________________________________

Given that line

y = −2x − 4

comparing it with y = mx + c

m = -2 and c = -4

Thus, slope of this line is -2

we also know that when two lines are parallel then their slopes are same

thus, slope of required line will be m = -2

___________________________________________

now let the equation of line passing through (-1,-1) be

y = mx + c

we have found m to be -2

using this in above equation we have

y = -2x + c

since (-1,-1) passes through the above line using x = -1 and y = -1

we have

-1 = -2*-1 + c

-1 = 2 + c

c = -1 - 2 = -3

using c = -3 in y = -2x + c

we have

equation of line as

y = -2x - 3 in slope intercept form.

A wood piece 100 cm long cut into two pieces so that the longer piece is 10 cm long than twice the length of shorter piece. What
lawyer [7]

For this case we propose a system of equations:

x: Let the variable representing the length of the longer piece

y: Let the variable representing the length of the shorter piece

According to the statement data we have:

x + y = 100\\x = 10 + 2y

Substituting the second equation into the first we have:

10 + 2y + y = 100\\10 + 3y = 100\\3y = 100-10\\3y = 90\\y = \frac {90} {3}\\y = 30

Thus, the shorter piece is 30 cm.

x = 10 + 2y\\x = 10 + 2 (30)\\x = 10 + 60\\x = 70

Thus, the longer piece is 70 cm.

Answer:

The longer piece is 70 centimeters.
