Shiloh wants to earn at least $200. That means the number of cakes, x, that she sells has to earn her at least $200. For the inequality, the want number the least number of cakes possible to earn her $200 on the left side of ≤ and the most cakes possible she can sell on the right side of ≤.

Calculate the least amount of cakes she can sell to make $200. To do this, divide $200 by $5, since each cake is selling for $5.
\frac{\$200}{\$5} = 40 \: cakes

That means she has to sell at least 40 cakes to meet her goal. That number, 40, goes to the left of ≤. Since she has 100 cakes to sell, 100 goes to the right of ≤. x can fall between 40 and 100, including both numbers, making your inequality 40 ≤ x ≤ 100.

The answer is B) 40 ≤ x ≤ 100.

Problem Solving

Linear equations are often used to solve practical problems that have an unknown quantity. We use a suitable pronumeral to represent the unknown quantity, translate the information given in the problem into an equation, and then solve the equation using the skills acquired earlier in this chapter.

Example 11

If a number is increased by 8, the result is 25. Find the number.

Solution:

Let x be the number. Increasing x by 8 gives x + 8, which we are told is 25. Therefore, x + 8 = 25. Subtract 8 from both sides to find x = 17. So, the number is 17.

Step-by-step explanation:

I hope this helps!!!

What is the solution to this equation?
HACTEHA [7]

Answer:

Option 1 - X = 9

Step-by-step explanation:

The solution to this equation, x - 15 = - 6

Solving the following,

Step 1: x - 15 = -6

Replace all the numerical values in one side and x digits on the other side

Step 2: x = -6+15

Step 3: x = 9

Therefore, the value of x is 9.
