Lance and Jasmine were making instant iced tea. Lance put two spoonfuls of ice tea powder and 250 mL of water. Jasmine put four

spoonfuls of iced tea powder in 250 ml of water.
Lance stirred and his mixture, and it all dissolved. Jasmine stirred hers, but it didn’t all dissolve.

What should I do to make all the powder dissolve?

What should jasmine do to dissolve the rest of the powder??

Why do you think that will work?

Answer:

Slightly heat her tea,

Water molecules would have a greater kinetic energy at a greater temperature being able to use this energy to break the lattice and the attraction forces between the particles in the powder.

Explanation:

It looks like Jasmine obtained a saturated solution and tried to dissolve more powder. A saturated solution is a solution in which we have the maximum amount of solute (powder) dissolved and we cannot dissolve more.

That said, Jasmine already has a saturated solution and the remaining crystals of powder will not dissolve normally, unless we perform specific adjustments.

According to the solubility curves, remember that with an increase in temperature, the solubility increases, that is, the greater the temperature, the greater the amount of a substance that can dissolve at the given volume of water. This means we may suggest Jasmine to slightly heat her tea while stirring until she sees that the crystals dissolve fully.

This will work, as water molecules would have a greater kinetic energy at a greater temperature being able to use this energy to break the lattice and the attraction forces between the particles in the powder.
