A bus contains a 1440 kg flywheel (a disk that has a 0.63 m radius) and has a total mass of 10200 kg. Calculate the angular velo

city the flywheel must have to contain enough energy to take the bus from rest to a speed of 21 m/s in rad/s, assuming 90.0% of the rotational kinetic energy can be transformed into translational energy.

Answer:\omega =93.51 rad/s

Explanation:

Given

mass of Flywheel m_1=1440 kg

mass of bus m_b=10200 kg

radius of Flywheel r=0.63 m

final speed of bus v=21 m/s

Conserving Energy i.e.

0.9(Rotational Energy of Flywheel)= change in Kinetic Energy of bus

Let \omegabe the angular velocity of Flywheel

0.9\cdot \frac{I\omega ^2}{2}=\frac{m_bv^2}{2}

I=moment\ of\ Inertia =mr^2=1440\cdot 0.63^2=571.536 kg-m^2

0.9\cdot \frac{571.536\cdot \omega ^2}{2}=\frac{10200\cdot 21^2}{2}

\omega ^2=21^2\times \frac{10200}{0.9\times 571.536}

\omega =21\times 4.45=93.51 rad/s

Calculate ine gravitational potential energy of the ball using pe=m×g×h.(use g=9.8 n/kg)
Neko [114]

Answer:

58.8J

Explanation:

Given parameters;

Mass of ball  = 4kg

Height above the floor  = 1.5m

g  = 9.8n/kg

Unknown:

Potential energy  = ?

Solution:

The potential energy of a body is the energy due to the position of the body.

It is mathematically expressed as:

  Potential energy = mass x acceleration due to gravity x height

  Potential energy  = 4 x 9.8 x 1.5  = 58.8J

Two paths lead to the top of a big hill. One is steep and direct, while the other is twice as long but less steep. How much more
umka2103 [35]

Answer:

None.

Explanation:

  • Gravitational potential energy, depends only of the mass on which the gravity is doing work, and the displacement produced by this force.
  • As displacement depends only on the final and initial positions (in this case, the height of the hill), if we choose as our zero reference level the bottom of the hill, the change in gravitational potential energy will be as follows:

       \Delta U = U_{f} -U_{0} = m*g*h - 0  = m*g*h

  • As we can see, the only value of distance involved is the height of the hill , so it is independent of the distance travelled.
