A U-shaped tube open to the air at both ends contains some mercury. A quantity of water is carefully poured into the left arm of

the Ushaped tube until the vertical height of the water column is 15.0 cm. (a) What is the gauge pressure at the water–mercury interface? (b) Calculate the vertical distance h from the top of the mercury in the right-hand arm of the tube to the top of the water in the left-hand arm. (The density of mercury is 13.6 ⇥ 103 kg/m3).

Answer:

Explanation:

a ) gauge pressure will be due to water column of length 15 cm .

pressure = h d g , h is height of column , d is density of column and g is gravitational acceleration .

= .15 x 10³ x 9.8

= 1470 Pa .

b )

Let due of weight of water column , mercury level in left column goes down by distance h . The level of mercury in right column will rise by the same distance ie by distance h .

So mercury column of 2h height is balancing the water column of height 15 cm

2h x 13.6 x 10³ x g = .15 x 10³ x g

h = .15 / (2 x 13.6)

= .55 x 10⁻² m

= . 55 cm

Difference of height of water column and mercury column

= 15 - 2 x .55 cm

= 13.9 cm .

astra-53 [7]

Answer:

The answer is "Choice E".

Explanation:

In this situation the option e is right because its resistance decreases through time, however, the time is the same for the same reason, whereas the sphere deteriorates, somehow it travels shorter distances however if the air resistance becomes are using the amplitude of movement declines, that's why other choices were wrong.

In what ways does a stream transport its load, and which part of the load moves most slowly? Select all that apply.
vodka [1.7K]

Answer: Option (B)

Explanation: A stream transports its materials in different ways-

 1. Dissolved load- Here, the materials gets dissolved when mixed with water and flows along with the stream.
 2. Suspended load- Here, the materials are not fully dissolved in the water but they can be carried from one place to another in suspension mode, by the river.
 3. Bed load- Bed load are transported in three different ways such as-
 • Sliding- here, the materials slides down along a curved surface under the water and carried away.
 • Rolling- here, the materials are solid and due to force exerted by water, it can roll and move to distant places.
 • Saltation- here, the materials are carried away in a series of jumps.

Thus, the most appropriate answer is option (B) i.e bedload.

skad [1K]
Here's a quick way to find out. Pick up your glasses, bifocals work best, and find the focal length with a flashlight against a book. If I remember right, the object should be magnified and upside down. So, A.

What causes a wave to begin
kakasveta [241]
Wind or gravitational pull. A wave is made by friction between wind and the water’s surface. Waves can also be made by the sun and moon’s gravitational pull on the earth.
