Three temperature scales are in general use today. The Fahrenheit (°F) temperature scale is used in the United States and a few other English-speaking countries. The Celsius (°C) temperature scale is standard in virtually all countries that have adopted the metric system of measurement, and it is widely used in the sciences. The Kelvin (K) scale, an absolute temperature scale (obtained by shifting the Celsius scale by −273.15° so that absolute zero coincides with 0 K), is recognized as the international standard for scientific temperature measurement.

P1V1/T1 = P2V2/ T2

P1 =  78atm, V1 = 21L , T1 = 900K

P2 = 45atm, V2 = ? , T2 =750K

78× 21 / 900 = 45×V2 / 750

1638/900 = 45 V2 / 750

1638×750 = 900×45V2

1228500 = 40500V2

Divide both sides by 40500

1228500÷40500= V2

V2 = 30.33L

In a solid, the solids only vibrate about their mean positions but do not translate. When energy is supplied to the molecule in the form of heat, the molecules vibrate faster. Eventually, they acquire sufficient energy to leave their mean positions and translate. Hence the solid crystal collapses.

When ice is heated, water molecules acquire sufficient kinetic energy to translate. The intermolecular bonds are gradually broken in the solid framework as heat is absorbed. The heat required for this is known as the latent heat of fusion.
