A certain element consists of two stable isotopes. the first has a mass of 68.9 amu and a percent natural abundance of 60.4 %. t
Sauron [17]
The average atomic weight of this element can be calculated as follows:
average atomic weight =
(atomic weight of first isotope)(its percentage of abundance) +
(atomic weight of second isotope)(its percentage of abundance)

atomic weight of first isotope = 68.9 amu
its percentage of abundance = 0.604
atomic weight of second isotope = 70.9 amu
its percentage of abundance = 0.396

So, just substitute in the above equation to get the atomic weight of the element as follows:
atomic weight = (68.9)(0.604) + (70.9)(0.396) = 69.692 amu

What is the product when magnesium reacts with nitrogen? Mg(s) + N2(g) → Mg2N3(s) Mg3N(s) Mg3N2(s) MgN3(s)
bixtya [17]
Look at the periodic table to find the charge on atoms.
Magnesium is +2 and Nitrogen is -3. Since there are two nitrogen charge 2*-3 = -6 there needs to be 3 Mg then (3*2+ = 6+) to pair with the two nitrogen.
3 Mg(+2) + 2 N(-3) = Mg3N2
