Which type of substance can conduct electricity in the liquid phase but not in the solid phase?

Ionic compound, this is because the ions in a compound consist of a metal and a nonmetal... Or cation and anion. This means that they have opposite charges, so when they are in liquid form they allow for movement of electrify because they are free flowing. In contrast, as a solid they are tightly attracted and compacted so a charge cannot be carried through. Hope that helps!

Driving to work one morning, you get a flat tire. When using the car jack, you apply 120 N of force to the jack and the jack in
svetlana [45]

16.7

Explanation:

Given parameters:

Force applied to Jack = 120N

Force produced by Jack = 2000N

Unknown:

Mechanical advantage of jack = ?

Solution:

Mechanical advantage is the ratio of force produced by the device and the force applied on it.

It is used to access the performance of a machine.

M.A = \frac{force output}{force input}

Now input the parameters;

  M.A = \frac{2000}{120}

 M.A = 16.7

An oxide of nitrogen is 25.9% N by mass, has a molar mass of 108 g/mol, and contains no nitrogen-nitrogen or oxygen-oxygen bonds
Sonja [21]

Answer:

The compound is N2O4

Explanation:

We have certain important pieces of information about the compound;

1) it is an oxide (a binary compound of nitrogen and oxygen)

2) there are no N-N bonds present

3) there are no O-O bonds present

Since it contains only nitrogen and oxygen then nitrogen accounts for 25.9% of the molecule by mass then oxygen should account for (100-25.9) = 74.1% oxygen

Relative atomic mass of oxygen = 16

Relative atomic mass of nitrogen = 14

We now deduce the empirical formula

Nitrogen. Oxygen

25.9/14. 74.1/16

1.85/1.85. 4.6/1.85 (divide through by the lowest ratio)

1 2

Empirical formula is NO2

To find the molecular formula

(NO2)n = 108

(14+2(16))n= 108

46n=108

n= 108/46

n= 2

Therefore molecular formula= N2O4

For which process is ΔS negative? Group of answer choices A. grinding a large crystal of KCl to powder B. raising the temperatur
ludmilkaskok [199]

Answer:

C.

Explanation:

The entropy (S) is the measure of the randomness of a system, and ΔS = Sfinal - Sinitial. As higher is the disorder of the system, as higher is the entropy.

A. When KCl is fractionated in power, there'll be more portions of it, so, the disorder must be higher, then ΔS is positive.

B. As higher is the temperature, higher is the kinetic energy of the system, and because of that, the disorder is also higher, so ΔS is positive.

C. The decrease in the volume (compression) decreases the distance between the molecules, so the system will be more organized, then ΔS is negative.

D. The volume before the mixing will be higher, and the ethanol will dissociate, so it will be more particles, the disorder will increase, and ΔS is positive.

E. Sgas > Sliquid > Ssolid because of the disorder of the molecules, then ΔS is positive.

How will you known that you have reached the equivalence point when titrating the NaOH solution with HCl?
Nitella [24]

Answer:

When the solution (with phenolphthalein) changes to colorless

Explanation:

When titrating with HCl is common to add phenolphthalein as an acid-base indicator.

Phenolphthalein is pink or fucsia when added into a basic solution. On the other hand when it is in acid solutions, is colorless.

So, when titrating, the NaOH solution will be initialy pink due to the phenolphthalein and when reaching the equivalence point, that color will fade out into colorless. This is how you know you hace reached the equivalent point.
