taking x-direction at west  and y-direction as north

Wind is moving from east to west

  x = 40 Km/h, y = 0 Km/h

bird has to fly opposite to the wind

speed of wind, x = -40 Km/h

a) angle of bird

\theta = sin^{-1}(\dfrac{40}{100})

       θ = 23.58° South of West

b) Speed of the bird = 100 Km/h

Speed of bird north to south = 100 cos 23.58°

                                                = 91.65 Km/h

time taken to travel 500 Km

t = \dfrac{500}{91.65}

    t = 5.45 hr

time to travel 500 Km from North to south is equal to 5.45 hr.

The least number of component of a vector quantity is two. These are the x-component and the y-component. 

The resultant vector, or vector as we refer to it in this item, can be calculated through the equation,
              RV = sqrt ((Vx)² + (Vy)²)

From the equation, it can be noted that if we let Vx equal to zero,
              RV = Vy

Similarly, if we let Vy be equal to zero then,
             RV = Vx

Thus, it is still possible for the vector to become nonzero even if one of its components is zero.

The 'period' of a pendulum . . . the time it takes to go back and forth once, and return to where it started . . . is

T = 2π √(length/gravity)

For this pendulum,

T = 2π √(0.24m / 9.8 m/s²)

T = 2π √0.1565 s²

T = 0.983 second

If you pull it to the side and let it go, it hits its highest speed at the BOTTOM of the swing, where all the potential energy you gave it has turned to kinetic energy.  That's 1/4 of the way through a full back-and-forth cycle.

For this pendulum, that'll be (0.983s / 4) =

Notice that the formula T = 2π √(length/gravity) doesn't say anything about how far the pendulum is swinging.  For small angles, it doesn't make any difference how far you pull it before you let it go . . . the period will be the same for tiny swings, little swings, and small swings.  It doesn't change if you don't pull it away too far.  So . . .

<em>(B).</em>  The period is the same whether you pulled it 3.5 or 1.75 . <em>T = 0.246 s.</em>
