In Lab 10 you make a stock solution of salicylic acid, and then four dilutions. The stock solution is made by diluting 5.00 ml o

f 1.250 x 10-2 M salicylic acid in 50.00 mL of solution. You then make the four dilutions as follows: Dilution #1 = 10.00 mL of stock diluted to 25.00 mL Dilution #2 = 7.50 mL of stock diluted to 25.00 mL Dilution #3 = 5.00 mL of stock diluted to 25.00 mL Dilution #4 = 2.50 mL of stock diluted to 25.00 mL Determine the concentrations of the stock solution and four dilutions and enter them in the tables below.

Answer:

Stock  solution =  1.25 *10^-3 M

Dilution 1 = 5*10^-4 M

Dilution 2= 3.75 * 10^-4 M

Dilution 3 = 2.5 *10^-4 M

Dilution 4 = 1.25 *10^-4 M

Explanation:

<u>Step 1:</u> Data given

The stock solution is made by diluting 5.00 ml of 1.250 x 10-2 M salicylic acid in 50.00 mL of solution.

<u>Step 2</u>: Calculate the concentration of the stock solution:

M1*V1 = M2*V2

⇒ with M1 = the initial concentration = 1.250 *10^-2 M

⇒ with V1 = 5 mL = 5*10^-3 L

⇒ with M2 = TO BE DETERMINED

⇒ with V2 = 50 mL = 50 *10^-3 L

M2 = (M1*V1)/V2

M2 = (1.250 *10^-2 * 5*10^-3 L) / 50 *10^-3

M2 = 0.00125 M = 1.25 *10^-3 M

<u>Step 3:</u> Calculate dilution 1

M2 = (M1*V1)/V2

M2 = (1.25*10^-3 * 10 *10^-3)/(25*10^-3L)

M2 = 0.0005 M = 5*10^-4 M

<u>Step 4</u>: Calculate dilution 2

M2 = (M1*V1)/V2

M2 = (1.25*10^-3 * 10 * 7.5*10^-3)/(25*10^-3)

M2 = 0.000375 M = 3.75 * 10^-4 M

<u>Step 5:</u> Calculate dilution 3

M2 = (M1*V1)/V2

M2 = (1.25*10^-3 * 5*10^-3) /(25*10^-3)

M2 = 0.00025 M = 2.5 *10^-4 M

<u>Step 6</u>: Calculate dilution 4

M2 = (M1*V1)/V2

M2 = (1.25*10^-3 * 2.5*10^-3)/(25*10^-3)

M2 = 0.000125 M = 1.25 *10^-4 M

What is the number of electron and neutron protons in atom 35?
Fittoniya [83]
The mass number = protons + neutrons. Bromine has a mass number of 80<span> and 35 protons so </span>80<span>-35 = </span>45<span> neutrons. b) How many electrons does the neutral atom of bromine have? The neutral atom of bromine has 35 electrons because the number of electrons equals the number of protons.</span>

Why is CCl4 a nonpolar molecule, but PCl3 is a polar molecule?
Anna11 [10]
If you follow the octet rule, you know that an element must have 8 outside (or valence) electrons to be energetically favorable.

In CCl4, the carbon molecule forms four bonds; one for each chlorine atom. Each bond contains 2 electrons, so it is satisfied.

In PCl3, Phosphorous forms only 3 bonds with chlorine, which means in order to have 8 valence electrons, it also has a lone pair of electrons, not bonded with chlorine.

Now, in CCl4, picture the shape of the molecule like a plus sign, with the carbon in the middle and the chlorine at the four ends. It is symmetrical, and therefore is nonpolar.

In PCl3, the lone pair electrons <em>push</em>, so to speak, the 3 chlorine atoms away, making a T-shaped molecule.  Since the chlorine is more electronegative than carbon, the molecule is unbalenced, making it polar.

Air enters a diffuser witha velocity of 400 m/s, a pressure of 1 bar and temperature of 25 C. It exits with a temperature of 100
ANEK [815]

Answer:

Exit velocity of air is 96.43 m/s.

Explanation:

Given that

V_1=400\ m/s

T_1=25C

T_2=100C

For air

C_p=1.005\ KJ/kg.K

Now from first law of thermodynamics for open system at steady state

h_1+\dfrac{V_1^2}{2000}+Q=h_2+\dfrac{V_2^2}{2000}+w

For diffuser

h_1+\dfrac{V_1^2}{2000}=h_2+\dfrac{V_2^2}{2000}

We know that

h=C_pT

h_1+\dfrac{V_1^2}{2}=h_2+\dfrac{V_2^2}{2000}

1.005\times 25+\dfrac{400^2}{2000}=1.005\times 100+\dfrac{V_2^2}{2}

V_2=96.43\ m/s

So the exit velocity of air is 96.43 m/s.
