A robotic rover on Mars finds a spherical rock with a diameter of 10 centimeters [cm]. The rover picks up the rock and lifts it

20 centimeters [cm] straight up. The rock has a specific gravity of 4.75. The gravitational acceleration on Mars is 3.7 meters per second squared [m divided by s squared]. If the robot's lifting arm has an efficiency of 40% and required 10 seconds [s] to raise the rock 20 centimeters [cm], how much power in units of watts [W] did the arm use?

Answer:

Power = 0.46 W

Explanation:

Given data:

distance  by which rock lift up is 20 cm

specific gravity of rocks is 4.75

Gravitational acceleration on mars is 3.7 m/sec

Efficiency 40%

we know that specific gravity of rocks

S.G = \frac{\rho_{rock}}{\rho_{water}}

4.75\times 1000  =\rho_{rock}

we know density = \frac{ mass}{volume}

mass_{rock} = 4.75\times 1000  {\frac{4}{3} \pi (\frac{0.1}{2})^2} = 2.48 kg

work done is W = \frac{mgh}{efficiency}

w = \frac{2.48\times 3.7\times 0.2}{0.4}

w = 4.6 j

so, Power = \frac{w}{t} = \frac{4.6}{10\ sec} = 0.46 W

An add tape of 101 ft is incorrectly recorded as 100 ft for a 200-ft distance. What is
baherus [9]

Answer:

the correct distance is 202 ft

Explanation:

The computation of the correct distance is shown below:

But before that correction to be applied should be determined

= (101 ft - 100 ft) ÷ (100 ft) × 200 ft

= 2 ft

Now the correct distance is

= 200 ft +  2 ft

= 202 ft

Hence, the correct distance is 202 ft

A lake is fed by a polluted stream and a sewage outfall. The stream and sewage wastes have a decay rate coefficient (k) of 0.5/d
joja [24]

Solution :

Given :

k = 0.5 per day

$C_s = 10 \ mg/L \ ; \ \ Q_s= 40 \ m^3/s$

$C_{sw} = 100 \ ppm \ ; \ \ Q_{sw}= 0.5 \ m^3/s$

Volume, V $= 200 \ m^3$

Now, input rate = output rate + KCV ------------- (1)

Input rate  $= Q_s C_s + Q_{sw}C_{sw}$

                $=(40 \times 10) + (0.5\times 100)$

                $= 2 \times 10^5 \ mg/s$

The output rate $= Q_m C_{m}$

                          = ( 40 + 0.5 ) x C x 1000

                          $=40.5 \times 10^3 \ C \ mg/s$

Decay rate = KCV

∴$KCV =\frac{0.5/d \times C \  \times 200 \times 1000}{24 \times 3600}$

            = 1.16 C mg/s

Substituting all values in (1)

$2 \times 10^5 = 40.5 \times 10^3 \ C+ 1.16 C$

C = 4.93 mg/L

Identify each statement as referring to a series or parallel circuit.
jolli1 [7]

Answer:

1. Parallel circuit

2. Parallel circuit

3. Series circuit

4. Series circuit

5. Parallel circuit

6. Parallel circuit

Explanation:

1. In a parallel circuit, there are multiple paths for current to flow. The path each current takes depends on the resistance of the resistors on that path.

2. In a parallel circuit, current splits up into various paths to get the total current through the circuit, the current flow through each resistor is added.

3. In a series circuit the voltage across each resistor is not the same. to get back the total voltage, the voltages across each resistor needs to be added.

4. Series circuits have voltage drops across each resistor. this makes the voltage across each resistor depend on the resistance of the resistor.

5. In parallel circuits voltage is the same across each resistor because they are all connected directly to the same source.

6. In parallel circuits, the power is the same in each resistor of equal resistance since the voltage across each resistor is the same
