Answer: x = 5

Step-by-step explanation:

1. Set the two given expressions equal to each other (because the problem says they are interchangeable)

-5x = -40+3x

2. Subtract 3x from -5x to have x on one side of the equation.

-8x = -40

3. Divide each side by -8 to get the value of x.

x = 5

A number m is more than -7 2/3 or at most -10
frutty [35]

This situation is represented by the following disjoint inequality:

m > -\frac{23}{3} \cup m \leq -10

---------------------------

  • The format of a <u>disjoint inequality</u> is:

x > a \cup x \leq b

  • Which is read as: x is more than a or at most b.

---------------------------

  • In this question, we have number m more than -7\frac{2}{3} = -7 - \frac{2}{3} = -\frac{21}{3} - \frac{2}{3} = -\frac{23}{3} and at most -10, thus, the disjoint inequality that represents this situation is:

m > -\frac{23}{3} \cup m \leq -10

HEEEELP ME PLEASEEEE :(<br> (The problem is in the picture)
lorasvet [3.4K]

Answer/Explanation:
3) 10x + 5y means the price of an adult ticket and any number of people who would purchase one and the price of a child ticket and any number of people who would purchase one
4) the variable “x” is any number of people purchasing an adult ticket and the variable “y” is any number of people purchasing a child ticket
5) since we already know what the variable “y” is from the question above, the parenthesis (5 + 1 + 1.50 + 3) represents the data from the chart: the cost of a child admission ticket, child ride ticket, a pizza slice, and one cotton candy
6) the expression x + y expresses the total number of adults and child who would attend the local fair

Ok, so the changing aspect it the per hour. so for Naomi it would be 2x. she already has 16.5 . so her equation would be y=2x+16.5 . for Claire, the changing variable would be 4x. she already has 7.5 . her equation would be y=4x+7.5 . both equations are equal to the same variable, so you put them together to make 2x+16.5=4x+7.5 . first you would get rid of the x variables by subtacting the 2 on each side giving you 16.5=2x+7.5 . subract the 7.5 on each side and then divide by 2. then you will get your answer.
