A 0.366 kg metal cylinder is placed inside the top of a plastic tube, the lower end of which is sealed off by an adjustable plun

ger, and comes to rest some distance above the plunger. The plastic tube has an inner radius of 7.24 mm, and is frictionless. Neither the plunger nor the metal cylinder allow any air to flow around them. If the plunger is suddenly pushed upwards, increasing the pressure between the plunger and the metal cylinder by a factor of 1.59, what is the initial acceleration of the metal cylinder? Assume the pressure outside of the tube is 1.00 atm.

Answer:

a = 32.6 m/s^2

Explanation:

As we know that pressure between the cylinder and plunger is increased by 1.59 times

So this will make a net force upwards on the cylinder which is given as

F = \Delta P A

now we will have

\Delta P = P_2 - P_1

Here initial pressure is given as

P_1 = P_o + \frac{mg}{A}

now new pressure is given as

P_2 = 1.59 P_1

so we have force on the cylinder given as

F = P_2A - mg - P_oA

F = 1.59(P_0 + \frac{mg}{A})A - (mg + P_0A)

F = 0.59(1.01 \times 10^5 \times \pi(7.24 \times 10^{-3})^2  + 0.366(9.81))

F = 11.93 N

now the acceleration is given as

F = ma

11.93 = 0.366 a

a = 32.6 m/s^2

A grocery shopper tosses a(n) 9.4 kg bag of rice into a stationary 19.9 kg grocery cart. The bag hits the cart with a horizontal
IRINA_888 [86]

The final speed of the cart and the bag is 2.2 m/s

Explanation:

We can solve this problem by using the law of conservation of momentum: in fact, in absence of external forces, the total momentum of the bag and the cart must be conserved before and after the collision.

Mathematically:

p_i = p_f\\m_1 u_1 + m_2 u_2 = (m_1+m_2)v

where:

m_1 = 9.4 kg is the mass of the bag of rice

u_1 = 7.0 m/s is the initial velocity of the bag

m_2 = 19.9 kg is the mass of the cart

u_2 =0 m/s is the initial velocity of the cart (at rest)

v is the final combined velocity of the bag and the cart

Re-arranging the equation and solving for v, we find:

v=\frac{m_1 u_1 + m_2 u_2}{m_1+m_2}=\frac{(9.4)(7.0)+0}{9.4+19.9}=2.2 m/s

To take off from the ground, an airplane must reach a sufficiently high speed. The velocity required for the takeoff, the takeof
BlackZzzverrR [31]
<h2>Answer: 26,8 s</h2>

Explanation:

If we are talking about an acceleration at a constant rate , we are dealing with constant acceleration, hence we can use the following equations:

{V_{f}}^{2}={V_{o}}^{2}+2ad (1)

V_{f}=V_{o}+at (2)

Where:

V_{f} is the final velocity of the plane (the takeoff velocity in this case)

V_{o}=0 is the initial velocity of the plane (we know it is zero because it starts from rest)

a=5m/s^{2} is the constant acceleration of the plane to reach the takeoff velocity

d=1800m is the distance of the runway

t is the time

Knowing this, let's begin with (1):

{V_{f}}^{2}=0+2(5m/s^{2})(1800m) (3)

{V_{f}}^{2}=18000m^{2}/s^{2} (4)

V_{f}=134.164 m/s (5)

Substituting (5) in (2):

134.164 m/s=0+(5m/s^{2})t (6)

Finding t:

t=26.8 s This is the time needed to take off
