The correct term to fill in the blank would be cortisol. In the context of stress hormones and the brain, cortisol has a profound effect on the hippocampus, a brain structure that plays a pivotal role in memory. Cortisol is classified as a steroid hormone which is produced by the adrenal gland. It is deemed as the stress hormone as it is released as a response to stress as part of the fight or flight process. From studies, cortisol was found to have effect on the hippocampus when present in high levels. It damage and kill the cells in that area of the brain. The hippocampus is the area of the brain that is responsible for the long term memory storage. So, when this part is damage then the storage for our memories would surely be affected.

<h2>CRISPR/Cas9</h2>

Explanation:

CRISPR can be used to reintroduce dystrophin back into the KO mouse

  • CRISPR stands for Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats and is used to for gene editing
  • CRISPR/Cas-mediated genome editing has been shown to permanently correct DMD mutations and restore dystrophin function in mouse models
  • Germline editing by injecting zygotes with CRISPR/Cas9 editing component was first done in mdx mice by correcting the mutated exon 23
  • Postnatal editing of mdx mice was then achieved using recombinant adeno-associated virus to deliver CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing components and correct the dystrophin gene by skipping or deleting the mutated exon 23 in vivo
  • Germline and postnatal CRISPR/Cas9 editing approaches both successfully restored dystrophin function in the mice and same technique can be used for KO mouse model

Identify which property of water cohesion, adhesion, or heat capacity applies to each observation below.
olga nikolaevna [1]

4. Large, circular lily pads are able to float on the water's surface.

Answer: cohesion

Cohesion mean that water attracted to another water. This force will make the water to form a surface tension in the lake. Water lily has a wide and thin leaf which makes it giving a low force per area. If the force applied on the surface is not bigger than surface tension, the leaf will stay float above the water. Surface tension also the reason water spider could walk on water.

5. The temperature of the water is about 5°C, while the temperature of the air is about 21°C.

Answer: heat capacity

Water has high heat capacity. High heat capacity mean that the water will not be easily become cold or hot. It will need more energy to increase/decrease the temperature of the water. This is why the water could keep its temperature much lower than the atmosphere. This will protect the organism inside the water from an extreme temperature change.
