Write in vertex form (by completing the square)y=4x2+40x+96
Anestetic [448]
y=4x^2+40x+96\\ \\ The \ vertex \ form \ of \ the \ function \ is: \\ \\y = a(x - h)^2 + k \\ \\vertex =(h, k) \ is \ given \ by: \\ \\h = \frac{-b}{2a} , \ \ \ k = c -\frac{b^2}{4a} \\ \\a=4 , \ \ b=40 , \ \ c=96

h = \frac{-40}{2 \cdot 4}=\frac{-40}{8}=-5 \\ \\ k = 96 -\frac{40^2}{4 \cdot 4} =96-\frac{1600}{16} =96-100=-4 \\ \\ y = 4(x - (-5) )^2 + (-5)=4(x +5 )^2 -5

The answer should be -2/3.

This can be solved by cross multiplying and solving. Because the g^2 terms cancel, you do not have to use square roots.

Help please!?
shutvik [7]
Together, the area of the two bases is
   (6 in)×(8 in) = 48 in²

The lateral area is the product of the height of the prism (2 in) and the perimeter of the base (6 in +8 in +10 in), so is
   (2 in)×(24 in) = 48 in²

The total area is the sum of these
   area = 48 in² +48 in² = 96 in² . . . . . . . . . matches the 3rd selection
