1. Which of the following statements best describe the difference between angiosperms and gymnosperms?

Biology
1 answer:
Elza [17]3 years ago

Gymnos were the first plants to inhabit the Earth, while Angios came later. The Angios rely on animals to pollinate them, by eating their fruit and then exposing the seed to grow in soil wherever they take it. Gymno means "naked seed" so these cone structures fall by wind gusts and grow where they land if fertile soil be present where they fall. Therefore the correct answer is:
C. Gymnosperms are mostly adapted for wind pollination; angiosperms are mostly adapted for animal pollination.

The diagram shows a normal red blood cell and a shrunken red blood cell, both of which are in salt water.
bixtya [17]

Answer: Water moved from inside the red blood cell into the salt water.

This is because of the osmotic difference between the salt solution and the red blood cell. This means that there is difference in the solute (salt) concentration inside the red blood cell and the salt solution.

Explanation: The salt concentration in the solution is higher than the salt concentration inside the red blood cell, that is, the red blood cell has more water concentration that the salt solution, therefore there will be movement of water from the inside of the red blood cell into the salt solution thereby causing the red blood cell to reduce in size. The movement of water from the red blood cell into the salt solution is to create a balance between the water concentration in the two environments, hence the movement of water from an area of high water concentration to an area of low solvent concentration across the selectively permeable membrane of the red blood cell.

What is unusual about the genetically-inherited mitochondrial disease LHON as compared to the genetically-inherited disease sick
Schach [20]

Answer:

Explanation:

LHON (Leber Hereditary Optic Neuropathy): Is a disease that is characterized by loss of vision in young adults.

Sickle cell anemia: Is a disease characterized by production of abnormally shaped red blood cells, that is, not round in shape as normal but are 'sickle' shaped or elongated/crescent shaped.

Both diseases are heritable But LHON is caused by mutations existing in the mitochondrion thus only inherited maternally.

Sickle cell anemia is caused by mutations in the HBB gene which produces the beta subunit of hemoglobin. It is inherited from recessive genes of both parents.

What are the roles of the chloroplasts and mitochondria?
mr Goodwill [35]
B. Chloroplasts perform photosynthesis, which converts light into sugar, which is food (energy). Then, the organelle mitochondria coverts that energy into a more usable form of energy by the cell, in a process called cellular respiration.
