Answer:

                     6.25 g of Carbon is in Excess

Explanation:

                     The balance chemical equation is as follow:

                                          C  +  O₂  →  CO₂

Step 1: Calculate Moles of O₂ as:

Moles = Mass / M/Mass

Moles = 50 g / 32 g/mol

Moles = 1.562 mol of O₂

Step 2: Calculate Moles of C as;

Moles  = 25 g / 12 g/mol

Moles  =  2.08 mol

Step 3: Calculate the Limiting reagent:

According to equation,

              1 moles of O₂ reacted with  =  1 mole of C

So,

            1.562 moles of O₂ will react with  =  X moles of C

Solving for X,

                     X = 1 mol × 1.562 mol / 1 mol

                      X = 1.562 mol of C

While we are provided with 2.08 mol of C. Means C is in excess.

Step 4: Calculate amount of Excess C as;

Excess Moles = Given Moles - Used Moles

Excess Moles = 2.08 mol - 1.562 mol

Excess Moles = 0.521 moles

Step 5: Converting Excess moles to Mass as:

Mass = Moles × M.Mass

Mass = 0.521 mol × 12 g/mol

Mass = 6.25 g

Analysis of an ore of calcium shows that it contains 13.61 g calcium and 21.77 g oxygen in a 46.28-g sample. Calculate the perce
kondor19780726 [428]

Answer:

29.41% of Calcium and 47.04% of Oxygen

Explanation:

The percent composition of an atom in a molecule is defined as 100 times the ratio between the mass of the atom and the mass of the molecule.

The mass of the molecule of the problem (Ore) is 46.28g. That means the percent composition of Calcium is:

13.61g / 46.28g * 100 = 29.41% of Calcium

And percent composition of Oxygen is:

21.77g / 46.28g * 100 = 47.04% of Oxygen

How many core electrons are in a ground state atom of selenium?
Harman [31]
Electrons in an atom can be classified as core electrons and valence electrons. Valence electrons are those electrons which are present in valence shell and participates in bond formation. While, Core electrons are all remaining electrons which are not present in valence shell, hence not take part in bonding.

Atomic number of Selenium (Se) is 34 hence it has 34 electrons with following electronic configuration;

                          1s², 2s², 2p⁶, 3s², 3p⁶, 4s², 3d¹⁰, 4p⁴

From electronic configuration it is found that the valence shell is 4, and the number of electrons present in valence shell are 6. So,

             Core Electrons  =  Total Electrons - Valence Electrons

             Core Electrons  =  34 - 6

             Core Electrons  =  28

Result:
          There are 28 core electrons in Selenium.

"Write the electron Configuration expected for element 113 and the configurations for the two cations it is most likely to form"
arlik [135]

Answer:

Element:

1s²2s²2p⁶3s²3p⁶4s²3d¹⁰4p⁶5s²4d¹⁰5p⁶6s²4f¹⁴5d¹⁰6p⁶7s²5f¹⁴6d¹⁰7p¹

Cations:

1s²2s²2p⁶3s²3p⁶4s²3d¹⁰4p⁶5s²4d¹⁰5p⁶6s²4f¹⁴5d¹⁰6p⁶7s²5f¹⁴6d¹⁰

1s²2s²2p⁶3s²3p⁶4s²3d¹⁰4p⁶5s²4d¹⁰5p⁶6s²4f¹⁴5d¹⁰6p⁶5f¹⁴6d¹⁰

Explanation:

The electron configuration is the distribution of the electrons in the sublevels in order of the crescent energy of them. The crescent energy of the sublevels follows the Linus Pauling's diagram, which is attached below. The sublevel "s" comports until 2 electrons, the sublevel "p" until 6 electrons, the sublevel "d" until 10 electrons, and sublevel "f" until 14 electrons.

So, for the element with an atomic number of 113, the neutral atom will have 113 electrons:

1s²2s²2p⁶3s²3p⁶4s²3d¹⁰4p⁶5s²4d¹⁰5p⁶6s²4f¹⁴5d¹⁰6p⁶7s²5f¹⁴6d¹⁰7p¹

Thus the element is at the 7 period (the highest level), and group 13 (most energic sublevel p with 1 electron), the group of the aluminum. It needs to lose 3 electrons to be stable and follow the octet rule, but the subshells of the last shell are too far away in energetic order, thus, it most probably to lose the electron of 7p and form a monovalent cation, and can lose the two electrons of 7s to form a trivalent cation:

1s²2s²2p⁶3s²3p⁶4s²3d¹⁰4p⁶5s²4d¹⁰5p⁶6s²4f¹⁴5d¹⁰6p⁶7s²5f¹⁴6d¹⁰

1s²2s²2p⁶3s²3p⁶4s²3d¹⁰4p⁶5s²4d¹⁰5p⁶6s²4f¹⁴5d¹⁰6p⁶5f¹⁴6d¹⁰
