The question is asking about your own experience, so you should best answer about yourself.

But I can help you by providing my own example:

I know a general practitioner in the UK. (a  medical doctor that is not a specialist, but can be seen as a first contact doctor).

I asked her what happens to veins after an injury - if they can't be properly stitched together. She answered that while those vessels would eventually dissappear, the vessels next to them would grow bigger and compensate by providing more blood to the region.

An HMO requires a referral from the primary care physician before they will cover a visit to a specialist. A podiatrist is considered a specialist.
