A gas contained within a piston-cylinder assembly undergoes three processes in series: Process 12: Compression with PV= constan

t from 1 bar and 1 liter to 4 bar. Process 23: Constant pressure expansion to 1 liter. Process 31: Constant volume Calculate the pressure and volume at each state, and sketch the processes on a P-Vdiagram labeled with pressure and volume values at each numbered stat

Initial state the pressure and volume are

P = 1 bar

V = 1 litre

Now the process equation is given as

PV = constant

So now the pressure is increased to

P = 4 bar

so volume must decrease by 4 times

so final volume is

V = 0.25 litre

Now the pressure is constant and volume again increased to V = 1 litre

Now in final step the volume will become constant and again pressure will become P = 1 bar

so this is a cyclic process and figure is attached at following

Answer:

Wc = 7.84    weight of crown

Ww = 7.84 - 6.86 = .98       weight of water displaced

Density = 7.84 / .98 = 8     crown is 8 X that of water

Since gold has a density of 19.3 that of water the crown is certainly not 100 percent (if any) gold
