A parallel-plate capacitor has square plates that are 7.20 cm on each side and 3.40 mm apart. The space between the plates is co

mpletely filled with two square slabs of dielectric, each 7.20 cm on a side and 1.70 mm thick. One slab is Pyrex glass and the other slab is polystyrene. If the potential difference between the plates is 96.0 V, find how much electrical energy (in nJ) can be stored in this capacitor.

Answer:

U = 218 nJ

Explanation:

We are given;

Spacing between the plates; d = 3.4 mm = 3.4 × 10^(-3) m

Voltage across the capacitor; V = 96 V

Dimension of the square plates is 7.2cm x 7.2cm.

So, Area = 7.2 × 7.2 = 51.84 cm² = 51.84 × 10^(-4) m²

Permittivity of free space; ε_o = 8.85 × 10^(-12) C²/N.m²

From relative permeability table;

Dielectric constant of Pyrex; k1 = 5.6

Dielectric constant of polystyrene; k2 = 2.56

Now, formula for capacitance of a capacitor with Dielectric is;

C = kC_o

Where, C_o = ε_o(A/d)

Since there are 2 capacitors, d will now be d/2 = (3.4 × 10^(-3))/2 m = 1.7 × 10^(-3)

Since we have 2 capacitor, thus ;

C1 = k1*ε_o*(A/d)

C1 = (5.6 × 8.85 × 10^(-12) × (51.84 × 10^(-4))/(1.7 × 10^(-3))

C1 = 1.51 × 10^(-10) F

Similarly;

C2 = (2.56 × 8.85 × 10^(-12) × (51.84 × 10^(-4))/(1.7 × 10^(-3))

C2 = 0.691 × 10^(-10) F

For capacitors in series, formula for total capacitance(Cs) is;

1/Cs = (1/C1) + (1/C2)

Simplifying this, we have;

Cs = (C1*C2)/(C1 + C2)

Plugging in the relevant values ;

Cs = (1.51 × 10^(-10)*0.691 × 10^(-10))/((1.51 × 10^(-10)) + (0.691 × 10^(-10)))

Cs = 0.474 × 10^(-10) F

The formula for energy stored in a capacitor with 2 Dielectrics is given as;

U = ½Cs*V²

So,

U = ½ × 0.474 × 10^(-10) × 96²

U = 2.18 × 10^(-7) J = 218 × 10^(-9) = 218 nJ

A concrete column has a diameter of 380 mm and a length of 2.6 m . if the density (mass/volume) of concrete is 2.45 mg/m3, deter
grigory [225]

The volume of the column is

(π) · (r²) · (length) =

(π) · (0.19 meter)² · (2.6 meters) =

(π) · (0.036 m²) · (2.6 m) =

0.294 m³ .

The density is 2,450 kg/m³ (VERY very dense, heavy concrete)

so the weight of the column is (mass)·(gravity) or

(density) · (volume) · (gravity) =

(2,450 kg/m³) · (0.294 m³) · (9.81 m/s²) =

(2,450 · 0.294 · 9.81) (kg · m³· m) / (m³ · s²) =

7,066 kg-m/s² = 7,066 Newtons .

But 9.81 Newtons = 2.20462 pounds on Earth (the weight of 1 kilogram of mass), so we have

(7,066 N) · (2.205 pound/9.81 N) =

(7,066 · 2.205 / 9.81) pounds =

1,588 pounds .

Someone please help? :)
Gnoma [55]

Answer:

(A) F_N - mg\cos\theta

Explanation:

The net force perpendicular to the surface of the incline is the sum of the gravity force component, which is mgcos(theta), and the reactionary normal force caused by the surface of the incline. The sum is F_N - mgcos(theta) and is usually 0 which is why the object is not moving perpendicularly to the surface of the incline.

calculate the eccentricity of jupiter's orbit if the aphelion is 816.62 million km and the perihelion is 741.52 million km
schepotkina [342]
<h2>Answer:0.048</h2>

Explanation:

Let the length of perihelion be p

Let the length of aphelion be a

Let the length of semi major axis of the elliptical path be s

As we know that semi major axis is the average of perihelion and aphelion.

So,s=\frac{p+a}{2} =\frac{1558.14}{2}=779.07millionKm

Let the eccentricity of the elliptical path be e

e=1-\frac{p}{s}=1-\frac{741.52}{779.07}=0.048

A block is sliding down an inclined plane that makes an angle of 65o with the horizontal. If the coefficient of kinetic friction
Nezavi [6.7K]

Answer:

8.2 m/s²

Explanation:

m = mass of the block

μ = Coefficient of kinetic friction = 0.17

F_{n} = Normal force on the block by the ramp

f_{k} = kinetic frictional force

Force equation perpendicular to ramp surface is given as

F_{n} = mg Cos65

Kinetic frictional force is given as

f_{k} = \mu F_{n}

f_{k} = \mu mg Cos65

Force equation parallel to ramp surface is given as

mg Sin65 - f_{k} = ma

mg Sin65 - \mu mg Cos65 = ma

g Sin65 - \mu g Cos65 = a

(9.8) Sin65 - (0.17) (9.8) Cos65 = a

a = 8.2 m/s²
