An apple is whirled round in a horizontal circle on the end of a string which is tied to the stalk. It is whirled faster and fas

ter and at a certain speed the apples is torn from the stalk.Why?

when the apple moves in a horizontal circle, the tension force in the string provides the necessary centripetal force to move in circle. the tension in the string is given as

T=mv²/r

where T = tension force in the string , m = mass of the apple

v = speed of apple , r = radius of circle.

clearly , tension force depends on the square of the speed. hence greater the speed, greater will be the tension force.

at some point , the speed becomes large enough that it makes the tension force in the string becomes greater than the tensile strength of the string. at that point , the string breaks

What is the mass of a large ship that has a momentum of 1.60×109kg·m/s, when the ship is moving at a speed of 48.0 km/h? (b) Com
erastova [34]

a) The mass of the ship is 1.2\cdot 10^8 kg

b) The ship has a larger momentum than the shell

Explanation:

a)

The momentum of an object is given by:

p=mv

where

m is the mass of the object

v is its velocity

For the ship in this problem, we have

p=1.60\cdot 10^9 kg m/s is the momentum

v=48.0 km/h \cdot \frac{1000 m/km}{3600 s/h}=13.3 m/s is the velocity

Solving for m, we find the mass of the ship:

m=\frac{p}{v}=\frac{1.60\cdot 10^9}{13.3}=1.2\cdot 10^8 kg

b)

The momentum of the artillery shell is given by

p=mv

where

m is its mass

v is its velocity

For the shell in this problem,

m = 1100 kg

v = 1200 m/s

Substituting,

p=(1100)(1200)=1.32\cdot 10^6 kg m/s

So, we see that the ship has a larger momentum.

Do you believe that global warming is happening? Tell why or why not. If you believe global warming is happening, what can we do
adoni [48]

Answer:

Yes I do believe global warming is happening, mainly because there is a plethora of data and research from scientists to support the claim. The effects of global warming around us are clearly observed as well, such as the rise in acidity in the oceans. Another example is in the Artic, where a natural occurence takes place. Ice freezes and cold salty water takes its place, and because of it's high density it sinks and sweeps across the ocean floor. That cold water is then replaced by warmer water, and this is called the global ocean conveyor belt. As seen through the example with the Artic, ocean temperature plays a key role in the conveyor belt. Climate change is fueled through human activities, which could harm the system. If one part of the conveyor belt were to break down, such as the one in the Artic,  nutrients will not be distributed to start the food chain. Organisms such as phytoplankton need those nutrients to thrive. If phytoplankton are endangered, all life in the oceans is endangered. So as we can see, global warming is extremely harmful to the environment and it's effects are observed around us.

To slow global warming down we should consume less meat, and go to vegan or vegetarian diets. Your carbon footprint is halved by consuming less meat and eating a more vegan or vegetarian diet. Another thing is that we as a society should stop using so much plastic. It takes more than a century to degrade, most landfills are composed of it. Microplastics also get into our oceans, and our fish end up consuming them.

The microwaves in a microwave oven are produced in a special tube called a magnetron. The electrons orbit the magnetic field at
Rama09 [41]

Answer:

<em>The magnetic field is 0.0857 T.</em>

Explanation:

The electrons orbit the magnetic field with a centripetal force equal to

F = \frac{mv^{2} }{r}

also, the force on an electron in a magnetic field is gotten as

F = Bqv

equating this two equations give

\frac{mv^{2} }{r} = Bqv

mv/r = Bq

where m is the mass of the electron = 9.11 x 10^-31 kg

v is the the linear speed of the electron

B is the magnetic field on the electron

r is the radius of the orbital movement

q is the charge on an electron = 1.602 x 10^-19 C

but, the linear speed v = ωr

where ω is the angular speed of the electron

substituting into equation above, we have

mωr/r = Bq

which reduces to

mω = Bq

finally, w know that the angular speed is related to the frequency of the electron by

ω = 2πf

we then finally have

2mπf = Bq

where f is the frequency emitted by the electron = 2.4 GHz = 2.4 x 10^9 Hz

substituting values into the equation, we have

2 x 9.11 x 10^-31 x 3.142 x 2.4 x 10^9 = B x 1.602 x 10^-19

B = (1.3734 x 10^-20)/(1.602 x 10^-19) = <em>0.0857 T</em>

= <em>85.7 mT</em>

A tuned mass damper for a skyscraper consists of a mass–spring system with spring constant 0.288 M/m. What should be its mass if
Morgarella [4.7K]

Answer:

m = 0.255kg

Explanation:

from the formular of a mass - spring system

T = 2π√m/k

making m as the subject of formular

m = T² k/4π²

T =5.91s

k = 0.288 N/m

m = 10.059/39.489

m = 0.255kg
