The line plot (shown in the attached image) shows the prices of sunglasses at a department store.
Andru [333]

a. The median is 70, the mode is 60, and the mean is 70.8.

b. Mean best captures the data.

c. When there are outliers, the mean might be a deceptive center measure.

Calculating the Mean, Median, and Mode

Mean: Total number of sunglasses / total quantity of pries

Mean = (20 + 20 + 50 + 50 + 50 + 60 + 60 + 60 + 60 + 60 + 60 + 70 + 70 + 70 + 80 + 80 + 80 + 80 + 90 + 90 + 90 + 90 + 100 + 100 + 130) / 25

Mean = 70.8

Median is equal to the (n/2 + 1)th term.

The number of sunglasses in this case is n.

(25/2 + 1)th term as the median

Median = 13th term

Median is 70

Mode is  the most frequent data

Therefore, mode = 70

Why is mean the most appropriate central measure ?

The mean is often the ideal measure of central tendency to use when your data distribution is continuous and symmetrical, such as when your data are normally distributed. So, mean here denotes the typical cost of the sunglasses.

Suppose you are given information about a triangle according to SSS, SAS, and ASA. For which of these can you immediately use th
jek_recluse [69]

Answer:

SSS and SAS

Step-by-step explanation:

Law of cosines: The law of cosines is used for calculating one side of a triangle when the angle opposite and the other two sides are known.

If the information about a triangle according to SSS, SAS and ASA is given, then we will immediately use SSS and SAS  by using the law of cosines to find one of the remaining measures because Law of cosines is applied if we know one angle opposite and the other two sides.

Also, in ASA, we know two angles and one side, thus we cannot use Law of cosines in this, rather Law of sines can be accurately use in this case.

if you have two sides, encroaching an angle, then the Law of Cosines can be used to find a missing side, thus SAS will work fine for that, now, if you have no angles given, but you know all sides, you can use the Law of Cosines as well, by solving it for the angle, and get the angles, on which case, SSS will do... .now as far as ASA, if you have two angles and one side known, then... that's not very workable for the law of cosines

Anna71 [15]

A. Western Beach is reducing was width by 10 feet every 5 years for the first 10 years, then the pattern became less constant. Dunes Beach experienced a stable and fast increase in width, 25 feet every 5 years of 5 feet per year.

B. Somewhere between years 11 and 12 they had the same width.

C. You can place the values on a graph and connect the points, and look at the intersections to determine points in time where they were of the same width.

First, lets look at the data. Western Beach (or WB for short) decreases its width by 10 feet every 5 years from year 0 to year 10. Between year 11 and year 15 the pattern shifts and becomes less changing since there is barely any change between years 12 and 15. Dunes Beach (or DB) increases steadily by 25 feet every 5 years or 5 feet per year.

Assuming the changes in width happen over time and gradually, at some point between year 10 and 11, both beaches would have likely had the same width, somewhere between 70 and 75.

To determine the exact point in time where they meet we would need to draw a graph, with the width in feet on the X axis and the year on the Y axis. Then we place all the pairs in the graph by their coordinates, and connect the points that correspond to each beach. We then see where the lines intersect and use mathematics to determine the values of X and Y, giving us the time and width when the two beaches were equal.
