These percentages are most likely mass percentages. Therefore, determine the mass of each element in 100g of the compound.

<span>75g C, 25g H. </span>

<span>Divide these masses by their molar mass to find the ratios of the moles of element in the compound. Divide these values by the smallest of the two/three to get the ratios. </span>

<span>6.25:25 C:H --> 1:4 </span>

<span>So the formulae are CH4 (methane).</span>

Hello!

A compound contains 75% carbon and 25% hydrogen by mass. what is the empirical formula for this compound ?

data:

Carbon (C) ≈ 12 a.m.u (g/mol)

Hydrogen (H) ≈ 1 a.m.u (g/mol)

We use the amount in grams (mass ratio) based on the composition of the elements, see: (in 100g solution)

C: 75 % = 75 g

H: 25 % = 25 g

The values (in g) will be converted into quantity of substance (number of mols), dividing by molecular weight (g / mol) each of the values, we will see:

C: \dfrac{75\:\diagup\!\!\!\!\!g}{12\:\diagup\!\!\!\!\!g/mol} = 6.25\:mol

H: \dfrac{25\:\diagup\!\!\!\!\!g}{1\:\diagup\!\!\!\!\!g/mol} = 25\:mol

We realize that the values found above are not integers, so we divide these values by the smallest of them, so that the proportion does not change, let us see:

C: \dfrac{6.25}{6.25}\to\:\:\boxed{C = 1}

H: \dfrac{25}{6.25}\to\:\:\boxed{H = 4}

Thus, the minimum or empirical formula found for the compound will be:

\boxed{\boxed{C_1H_4\:\:\:or\:\:\:CH_4}}\Longleftarrow(Empirical\:Formula)\end{array}}\qquad\checkmark

Answer:

CH4 (Methane)

Sladkaya [172]
The correct answer in here is: Limited the burning of soft coal. Some reasons for that are that when Britain was the workshop of the world its coal consumption increased from around 10 million tons per annum in 1800 to almost 200 million tons in 1950 and also that <span>Coal smoke was linked to very high death rates from respiratory diseases such as bronchitis, killing between 800,000 and 1.4 million people in the period 1840-1900.</span>

An oxidation reaction occurs only in the presence of _____.
aev [14]
The answer is reduction reaction. For every oxidation reaction that takes place, a reduction reaction must also happen, no reduction can occur without oxidation and vice versa. In redox reaction, atoms or ions undergo changes in the electronic structure, involving the transfer of electrons between reactants.

4. Can 200 ml of fluid be transferred to a 1-quart container? Explain the process that you used to arrive at your answer.
sukhopar [10]

Answer:

  • <u><em>Yes, 200 ml of fluid can be transferred to a 1-quart container.</em></u>

Explanation:

You must compare the two volumes, 200 ml and 1 quart. If 200 ml is less than or equal to 1 quart, then 200 ml of fluid can be transferred to a 1-quart container, else it is not possible.

To compare, the two volumes must be on the same system of units.

Quarts is a measure of volume equivalent to 1/4 of gallon.

One gallon is approximately 3.785 liters.

3.785 liter = 3.785 liter × 1,000 ml/liter

Then, to convert 1 quart to ml use the unit cancellation method:

  • (1/4)gallon × 3.785 liter/gallon × 1,000ml / liter = 946.25 ml

Thus, you get that a 1-quart container has volume of 946.25 ml, which allows that 200ml of fluid be transferred to it.

Which of the following statements is correct?
Vanyuwa [196]
I would say that children need adults to be responsible leaders. For example, my son has a developmental disability which means things must be done just so for him to feel comfortable. Yesterday, we wanted to meet up with my wife who was at the beach. He goes with me on the weekend to help him with his errands etc. So we went to her sports brella but she was swimming. So he wanted to go to the usual place he gets his fish and chips at another nearby place and also where he usually swims. So we left and went to that place. Then my wife called that where were we? So i said we will be back. So finally, once he got his food, I drove us back to meet my wife (instead of having him swim in his usual place). I was I believe using leadership so we could be together as a family and taking the chance that he would be okay with swimming at the other beach, and it worked out.
