A heat engine exhausts 8900 j of heat while performing 2800 j of useful work. part a what is the efficiency of this engine?
Anuta_ua [19.1K]
Given: Heat Qout means useful work = 2800 J

           Heat Qin = 8900 J

Required; Efficiency = ?

Formula: Efficiency = Qout/Qin = x 100%

                               = 2800 J/8900 J = 0.3146 X 100 %

               Efficiency = 31.46%

Capacitor 2 has half the capacitance and twice the potential difference as capacitor 1. What is the ratio (U_{\rm C})_1/\,(U_{\r
IrinaK [193]

Answer:

1/2

Explanation:

The energy stored in a capacitor is given by

U=\frac{1}{2}CV^2

where

C is the capacitance

V is the potential difference

Calling C_1 the capacitance of capacitor 1 and V_1 its potential difference, the energy stored in capacitor 1 is

U=\frac{1}{2}C_1 V_1^2

For capacitor 2, we have:

- The capacitance is half that of capacitor 1: C_2 = \frac{C_1}{2}

- The voltage is twice the voltage of capacitor 1: V_2 = 2 V_1

so the energy stored in capacitor 2 is

U_2 = \frac{1}{2}C_2 V_2^2 = \frac{1}{2}\frac{C_1}{2}(2V_1)^2 = C_1 V_1^2

So the ratio between the two energies is

\frac{U_1}{U_2}=\frac{\frac{1}{2}C_1 V_1^2}{C_1 V_1^2}=\frac{1}{2}

A 2 kg book is pushed from rest to a final velocity of 3 m/s. The book travels 2 m. How much force was the book pushed with
Studentka2010 [4]

Explanation:

first you have to find accelerarion, it is given that the initial velocity(u) is 3 m/s, distance travelled(s) be 2m finall it came to rest so final velocity be 0m/s

now using the 3rd law of motion

v^2=u^2+2as

0=9+2a2

a= -9/4m/s^2

now force=mass×accelration

=2kg×(-9/4)m/s^2

=4.5 N

4.5 newton force applied on the book!
