Explanation:

Because the salt is a charged, ionic compound, whereas the parent is purely covalently bounded, therefore, the salt of an organic acid or base is much more water soluble than the parent acid or base.

This is important because water molecules can "dissolve" a charged molecule, which means that it can be surrounded and stabilized by water molecules.

In contrast, water molecules are not drawn to parent acid or base nonpolar substituents, and the molecule's total polarity is determined by the relative electronegativity of the polar group and molecule surface area.

In other words, a long chained molecule in water are usually insoluble whereas a short chain is likely to be soluble.

Propane burns in air to form water vapor and another gas. What is the volume of the water vapor at 500°C and 1 atm?
kakasveta [241]

Answer:

253.85 L

Explanation:

We'll begin by writing the balanced equation for the reaction. This is illustrated below:

C₃H₈ + 5O₂ —> 3CO₂ + 4H₂O

From the balanced equation above, 4 moles of water vapor were produced.

Finally, we shall determine the volume of the water vapor produced as follow:

Mole water vapor (n) = 4 moles

Pressure (P) = 1 atm

Temperature (T) = 500 °C = 500 °C + 273 = 773 K

Gas constant (R) = 0.821 atm.L/Kmol

Volume (V) =?

PV = nRT

1 × V = 4 ×0.0821 × 773

V = 253.85 L

Thus, the volume of water vapor obtained is 253.85 L

Find the limiting reagent if 0.25 moles of Co2 react with 0.1 moles of KO2
brilliants [131]

Answer:

KO₂ is limiting reactant

Explanation:

Based on the balanced reaction:

2CO₂ + 4KO₂ → 2K₂CO₃ + 3O₂

2 moles of CO₂ react with 4 moles of KO₂.

Thus, for a complete reacction of 0.25 moles of CO₂ are required:

0.25 moles * (4moles KO₂ / 2moles CO₂) = 0.5 moles of KO₂

As there are just 0.1 moles:

KO₂ is limiting reactant
