What has more inertia: a full water bottle sitting on a desk, or a football player running with the ball?

According to the First Law of Motion or Law of Inertia, Inertia is the tendency for an object to resist change in its velocity. If you look at your scenario you have a full water bottle on a desk and a football player running with the ball. The water bottle is at REST because is not moving while the football player is IN MOTION, because he is running.

Now the question is would it be easier to make the water bottle move or to make the football player stop?

It is easier to make the bottle move than stop the football player. Since the running football player shows more resistance to a change in its motion, then it has more inertia.

If a 20 N object has been lifted 5 meters above the ground, how much gravitational potential energy does it have?
Andreyy89

The gravitational potential energy of the object is 100 J.

Gravitational potential energy stored in an object is the work done in raising the object to a height h against the gravitational force acting on it.

The gravitational force acting on a body is its weight mg, where m is its mass and g, the acceleration due to gravity.

Work done by a force is equal to the product of the force and the displacement made by the point of application of the force.

GPE = mgh

The weight of the object is given as 20 J and it is raised to a height of 5 m.

GPE =(mg)*h = (20 N)*(5m)=100 J

The gravitational potential energy of the object is 100 J.

Why does helium have more spectral lines than hydrogen?
Lynna [10]

This is because Helium has two valence electrons compared to Hydrogen which has only one. Helium has more energy levels for an electron to jump thus more spectral lines to occur. The spectral lines relating to each change of energy level would be more grouped together and hence the greater chance of them falling in the visible range.

A ball dropped from a bridge takes 3.0 seconds to reach the water below. How far is the bridge from the water?
Komok [63]
Since it is dropped, initial velocity u = 0

Using s = ut + (1/2)gt^2,        putting u = 0,  g = 10 m/s^2

s =(1/2)gt^2,                  t = 3s

s = 0.5 * 10 * 3 *3

s = 45 m.

The bridge is 45m above the water.
