The rear window of a van is coated with a layer of ice at 0°C. The density of ice is 917 kg/m3, and the latent heat of fusion of

water is 3.35 x 105 J/kg. The driver of the van turns on the rear-window defroster, which operates at 12 V and 28 A. The defroster directly heats an area of 0.44 m2 of the rear window. What is the maximum thickness of ice above this area that the defroster can melt in 4.5 minutes?

Answer:

thickness of ice melted = 1.242*10^{-3} m

Explanation:

power delivered = V*I = 12 * 28 =    336 Watts

.

heat delivered = power * time = 336 W * 300 seconds =   168000 Joules

.

mass of ice melted = \frac{heat}{latent heat dffusion}

mass of ice melted = 97200 J / 335000 J/kg = 0.5014 kg

.

volume of ice melted = mass / density =  0.5014 / 917 = 5.46*10{-4} m3

.

thickness of ice melted = volume / area = 5.46*10{-4} / 0.44   =  1.242*10^{-3} m

At what point in its motion is the KE of a pendulum bob a maximum? 1. The KE does not change. 2. at the lowest point 3. at the h
Andrew [12]

Answer:

2. at the lowest point

Explanation:

The motion of the pendulum is a continuous conversion between kinetic energy (KE) and gravitational potential energy (GPE). This is because the mechanical energy of the pendulum, which is sum of KE and GPE, is constant:

E = KE + GPE = const.

Therefore, when KE is maximum, GPE is minimum, and viceversa.

So, the point of the motion where the KE is maximum is where the GPE is minimum: and since the GPE is directly proportional to the heigth of the bob:

GPE=mgh

we see that GPE is minimum when the bob is at the lowest point,so the correct answer is

2. at the lowest point

A cat lies on the floor. can you say that no force acts on the cat? or is it correct to say that no net force acts on the cat? e
DIA [1.3K]

Odd though it seems at first, gravity is pulling the cat down while the floor is pushing the cat up - in equal amounts. Forces are absolutely acting on the cat but they balance - so there is no net force.

Answer:

(a) 181.05 m/s²

(b) 13.2°

Explanation:

Given:

Radius of the circle (R) = 0.610 m

Angular acceleration (α) = 67.6 rad/s²

Angular speed (ω) = 17.0 rad/s

(a)

Radial acceleration of the ball is given as:

a_r=\omega^2R

Plug in the given values and solve for a_r. This gives,

a_r=(17.0\ rad/s)^2\times (0.610\ m)\\\\a_r=289\times 0.610\ m/s^2\\\\a_r=176.29\ m/s^2

Now, tangential acceleration is given by the formula:

a_t=R\alpha

Plug in the given values and solve for a_t. This gives,

a_t=(0.610\ m)(67.6\ rad/s^2)\\\\a_t=41.236\ m/s^2

Now, the magnitude of total acceleration is given as the square root of the sum of the squares of tangential and centripetal accelerations. Therefore,

a_{Total}=\sqrt{(a_r)^2+(a_t)^2}

Plug in the given values and solve for total acceleration, a_{Total}. This gives,

a_{Total}=\sqrt{(176.29)^2+(41.236)^2}\\\\a_{Total}=181.05\ m/s^2

Therefore, the magnitude of total acceleration is 181.05 m/s².

(b)

Angle of total acceleration relative to radial direction is given by the formula:

\theta=\tan^{-1}(\frac{a_t}{a_r})\\\\\theta=\tan^{-1}(\frac{41.236}{176.29})\\\\\theta=13.2\°

Therefore, the total acceleration makes an angle of 13.2° relative to radial direction.

Which force is always directed toward the center of a circle?
vova2212 [387]
The answer is D. centripetal force
This definition of centripetal force is a force acting towards the center of an object moving in a circular motion. Acceleration is the rate of which velocity changes over a period of time. If you pick a point on say a rotating circle and find the tangential velocity at each point it goes through, the acceleration would be towards the middle.
