The rear window of a van is coated with a layer of ice at 0°C. The density of ice is 917 kg/m3, and the latent heat of fusion of

water is 3.35 x 105 J/kg. The driver of the van turns on the rear-window defroster, which operates at 12 V and 28 A. The defroster directly heats an area of 0.44 m2 of the rear window. What is the maximum thickness of ice above this area that the defroster can melt in 4.5 minutes?

Answer:

thickness of ice melted = 1.242*10^{-3} m

Explanation:

power delivered = V*I = 12 * 28 =    336 Watts

.

heat delivered = power * time = 336 W * 300 seconds =   168000 Joules

.

mass of ice melted = \frac{heat}{latent heat dffusion}

mass of ice melted = 97200 J / 335000 J/kg = 0.5014 kg

.

volume of ice melted = mass / density =  0.5014 / 917 = 5.46*10{-4} m3

.

thickness of ice melted = volume / area = 5.46*10{-4} / 0.44   =  1.242*10^{-3} m

The (blank) is something that should be tested according to the comfort level of the golfer. a. GRIP b. PUTTING GREEN c. SAND TR
gulaghasi [49]

Answer:  <em> a). Grip</em>

The grip is the important thing to be consider for golfer. It is the most fundamental important aspects to the game, because it provides the solid contact.

Applying the correct grip, results in better golf shots and an increased confidence to the golfer, to address the ball in the right direction.

Simply the grip is the pressure applied to the club with the hand such that the golfer feels comfortable to make a brilliant shot.

The average radius of Mars is 3,397 km. If Mars completes one rotation in 24.6 hours, what is the tangential speed of objects on
sammy [17]

Answer: First, we determine the circumference of the Mars by the equation below.

                                     C = 2πr

Substituting the known values,

                                     C = 2(π)(3,397 km) = 6794π km

To determine the tangential speed, we divide the circumference calculated above by the time it takes for Mars to complete one rotation and that is,

                   tangential speed = 6794π km / 24.6 hours = 867.64 km/h

A 0.49-kg cord is stretched between two supports, 7.8m apart. When one support is struck by a hammer, a transverse wave travels
katovenus [111]

To solve this problem we will apply the laws of Mersenne. Mersenne's laws are laws describing the frequency of oscillation of a stretched string or monochord, useful in musical tuning and musical instrument construction. This law tells us that the velocity in a string is directly proportional to the root of the applied tension, and inversely proportional to the root of the linear density, that is,

v = \sqrt{\frac{T}{\mu}}

Here,

v = Velocity

\mu= Linear density (Mass per  unit length)

T = Tension

Rearranging to find the Period we have that

T = v^2 \mu

T = v^2 (\frac{m}{L})

As we know that speed is equivalent to displacement in a unit of time, we will have to

T = (\frac{L}{t}) ^2(\frac{m}{L})

T = (\frac{7.8}{0.83})^2 (\frac{0.49}{7.8})

T = 5.54N

Therefore the tension is 5.54N
