andre [41]

Answer: the number of social media advertisements that you purchased is 18

The number of newspaper advertisements that you purchased is 6

Step-by-step explanation:

Let x represent the number of social media advertisements that you purchased.

Let y represent the number of newspaper advertisements that you purchased.

You purchase three social media advertisements for every one newspaper advertisement. This means that

y = x/3

x = 3y

You end up purchasing a total of 24 advertisements. This means that

x + y = 24 - - - - - - - - - 1

Substituting y = into equation 1, it becomes

3y + y = 24

4y = 24

y = 24/4 = 6

x = 3y = 6×3 = 18

The equations are

x = 3y

x + y = 24

Solve the system of equations using matrices. Use Gaussian elimination with back-substitution.
VikaD [51]

In augmented matrix form, the system is equivalent to

\begin{bmatrix}1&1&1&-5\\1&-1&3&-1\\4&1&1&-2\end{bmatrix}

Subtract row 1 from row 2, and 4(row 1) from row 3:

\begin{bmatrix}1&1&1&-5\\0&-2&2&4\\0&-3&-3&18\end{bmatrix}

Divide through row 2 by -2, and through row 3 by -3:

\begin{bmatrix}1&1&1&-5\\0&1&-1&-2\\0&1&1&-6\end{bmatrix}

Subtract row 2 from row 3:

\begin{bmatrix}1&1&1&-5\\0&1&-1&-2\\0&0&2&-4\end{bmatrix}

Divide through row 3 by 2:

\begin{bmatrix}1&1&1&-5\\0&1&-1&-2\\0&0&1&-2\end{bmatrix}

The last row tells you \boxed{z=-2}. Then

y-z=-2\implies y+2=-2\implies\boxed{y=-4}

and

x+y+z=-5\implies x-4-2=-5\implies\boxed{x=1}

Describe the graph of y = 1 2 x − 10 − 3 compared to the graph of y = 1 x .
Harman [31]

Answer:

graph y=12x-10-3 has a larger slope and does not pass through the origin, however, y=1x has a smaller slope and passes through the origin

Step-by-step explanation:

If you graph these lines it will help you to visually see this also. My graph is not exact but I hope it is helpful!
