Aqueous hydrobromic acid hbr will react with solid sodium hydroxide naoh to produce aqueous sodium bromide nabr and liquid water
Natalka [10]
 Balanced equation is

HBr + NaOH ----> NaBr + H2O

Using molar masses

80.912 g HBr reacts with  39.997 g of Naoh to give 18.007 g water

so 1 gram of NaOH reacts with 2.023 g of HBR
and 5.7 reacts with 11.531 g HBr so we have excess HBr in this reaction

Mass  of water produced  =    (5.7 * 18.007 / 39.997  =  2.6 g to 2 sig figs

Choose whether the statements about oil sands are true or false. The viscosity of bitumen is about 100 times greater than the vi
Alexxx [7]

The First 2 statements stated above were false whereas the third one is a true statement.

Explanation:

  • The viscosity of bitumen is about 100 times greater than the viscosity of water - False

Reason - The viscosity of bitumen is about not 100 times greater than the viscosity of water, it is actually 100, 000 times greater.

  • Oil from oil sand deposits is only obtained by first heating the sands at high temperatures is False.

Reason- Oil from oil sand deposits is not obtained by first heating the sands at high temperatures but by using steams

  • Oil sands contain sand, water, and light crude oil is true.

How are coefficients used to balance chemical equations?
Zepler [3.9K]
According to the law of conservation of mass, the quantity of the elements, involved in chemical reactions does not change. For example,
H2O2 - > H2O + O2
is wrong, because there are two O atoms on the first side of the equation, and three on the other. To correct it, coefficients must be added, until the amount of both H and O atoms is equal on both sides.
2H2O2 - > 2H2O + O2
