A permeation membrane separates an inlet air stream, F, (79 mol% N2, 21 mol% O2), into a permeate stream, M, and a reject stream

, J. The inlet stream conditions are 293 K, 0.5 MPa, and 2 mol/min; the conditions for both outlet streams are 293 K and 0.1 MPa. If the permeate stream is 50 mol% O2, and the reject stream is 13 mol% O2, what are the volu- metric flowrates (L/min) of the two outlet streams?

Answer:

  • Permeate stream: M=10,47 L/min
  • Reject stream: J=38,24 L/min

Explanation:

Using the law of mass conservation, we have that the moles of any component in the inlet air stream equals the moles of this compenent in the two outlets stream. Being A the mole flowrate for the permeate stream and B the mole flowrate for the reject stream (both in mol/min), we have equation (1) and (2):

  • <em>Oxygen:</em>

2 mol/min * 0,21 = A mol/min * 0,50 + B mol/min * 0,13    ......................(1)

0,42 = 0,5A + 0,13B...........................(1)

  • <em>Nitrogen:</em>

2 mol/min * 0,79 = A mol/min * 0,50 + B mol/min * 0,87    ......................(2)

1,58 = 0,5A + 0,87B...........................(2)

Solving this system:

1,58 = 0,5A + 0,87B...........................(2)

0,42 = 0,5A + 0,13B...........................(1)

1,16 = 0A + 0,74B...............................(2) - (1)

1.16=0,74B

1,16/0,74=B

<u>B=1,57 mol/min</u>

And now replacing B in equation (1):

1,58 = 0,5A + 0,87*1,57

1,58-1,37=0,5A

0,21/0,5=A

<u>A=0,43 mol/min</u>

To calculate the volumetric flowrate of the permeate stream (M) and the reject stream (J), we just replace the given and calculate data into the ideal gas equation:

PV=nRT,.................... V = nRT/P

  • <em>Permeate stream:</em>

M= \frac{0,43 \frac{mol}{min}*8,314\frac{m3Pa}{molK}*293K  }{0,1 MPa*\frac{10^{6}Pa }{1 MPa} }=0,01047\frac{m^{3} }{min} * \frac{1000 L}{1 m^{3} }=10,47 L/min

  • <em>Rejct stream:</em>

J= \frac{1,57 \frac{mol}{min}*8,314\frac{m3Pa}{molK}*293K  }{0,1 MPa*\frac{10^{6}Pa }{1 MPa} }=0,0382\frac{m^{3} }{min} * \frac{1000 L}{1 m^{3} }=38,24 L/min

The electrolysis of water forms H2 and O2. 2H2O Right arrow. 2H2 O2 What is the percent yield of O2 if 10.2 g of O2 is produced
Mama L [17]

Answer:

67.5%

Explanation:

Step 1: Write the balanced equation for the electrolysis of water

2 H₂O ⇒ 2 H₂ + O₂

Step 2: Calculate the theoretical yield of O₂ from 17.0 g of H₂O

According to the balanced equation, the mass ratio of H₂O to O₂ is 36.04:32.00.

17.0 g H₂O × 32.00 g O₂/36.04 g H₂O = 15.1 g O₂

Step 3: Calculate the percent yield of O₂

Given the experimental yield of O₂ is 10.2 g, we can calculate its percent yield using the following expression.

%yield = (exp yield / theoret yield) × 100%

%yield = (10.2 g / 15.1 g) × 100% = 67.5%

I don’t know what the correct answer is? Can anyone explain?
Scorpion4ik [409]

Short Answer:

C)

Long Answer:

A- When a solid is heated, it melts and becomes a liquid. (Another older term is Fusion.) An example of this is ice to water when you leave it outside the freezer.

B- When a liquid becomes a gas, it undergoes a process called boiling. Example: When you boil water, it becomes steam.

C- It is called deposition. Example: How snow forms in clouds.

Which contains more hydrogen atoms? a five-carbon saturated hydrocarbon molecule or a five-carbon unsaturated hydrocarbon molecu
Studentka2010 [4]

The organic compound which contains more hydrogen atoms is a five-carbon saturated hydrocarbon molecule

<h3>What are organic compounds?</h3>

Organic compounds are compounds are those compounds containing carbon and hydrogen only.

Some classes of organic compounds are:

  • Alkanes
  • Alkenes
  • Alkynes

So therefore, the organic compound which contains more hydrogen atoms is a five-carbon saturated hydrocarbon molecule

A velocity vs time graph is a graph that shows the relationship between the velocity of an object over time. is plotted on the x
S_A_V [24]
A graph shows a relationship between two variables: independent and dependent. The dependent variable is in the y-axis, while the independent variable is in the x-axis. When it says, plot velocity against time, that means that velocity is in the y-axis in meters per second, and time is in the x-axis in seconds.

An example of a velocity vs time graph is shown in the attached picture. In this example, the motion is in constant acceleration. This is because it is linear, thereby, the slope is constant. If you want to find the instantaneous velocity at a certain time, create a vertical line from the x-axis until it reaches the diagonal line. Then, draw a horizontal line towards the y-axis to know the value of the velocity.
