Answer:

Explanation:

Given that,

One fragment is 7 times heavier than the other

Let one fragment mass be M

Let this has a velocity v

And the other 7M

And this a velocity V

Initially the fragment is at rest u = 0

Applying conservation of momentum

Momentum is given as p=mv

Initial momentum = final momentum

Po = Pf

(M+7M) × 0 = 7M •V − Mv

0 = 7M•V - Mv

Divide both sides by M

0 = 7V -v

v = 7V

Since friction decelerates the masses to zero speed, we can calculate the NET work on the individual blocks and relate this quantity to the change in kinetic energy of each block

The workdone by the 7M mass is

Distance moved by 7M mass is 6.8m, Then, d =6.8m

W = fr × d

Where fr = µkN

When N=W =mg, where m=7M

N= 7Mg

fr = −µk × 7mg

Then, W(7m) = −7µk•Mg×d

W(7m) = −7µk•Mg×6.8

W(7m) = −47.6 µk•Mg

Then, same procedure,

Let distance move by the small mass be m

Work done by M mass

W(m) = −µk•Mg×d'

Since it is a wordone by friction, that is why we have a negative sign.

Using conservation of energy

Work done by 7M mass is equal to work done by M mass

W(7m) = W(m)

−47.6 µk•Mg = −µk•Mg×d

Then, M, g and µk cancels out

We are left with

-46.7 = -d

Then, d = 46.7m

Answer:

Distance the lighter fragment slides before stopping= 333.2 m

Explanation:

Gravitational acceleration = g

Mass of the lighter fragment = m

Mass of the heavier fragment = 7m

Velocity of the lighter fragment after the explosion = V1

Velocity of the heavier fragment after the explosion = V2

The object is at rest before the explosion hence the total momentum of the system is zero.

mV1 + 7mV2 = 0

V1 = -7V2

Coefficient of friction = \mu

Friction force on the lighter fragment = f1 =\mu mg

Friction force on the heavier fragment = f2 =7\mu mg

Deceleration of the lighter fragment due to friction = a1

ma1 = -f1

ma1 = -\mu mg

a1 =-\mu g

Deceleration of the heavier fragment due to friction = a2

7ma2 = -f2

7ma2 = -7\mu mg

a2 = -\mu g

Final velocity of the lighter fragment = V3 = 0 m/s

Final velocity of the heavier fragment = V4 = 0 m/s

Distance traveled by the lighter fragment before coming to rest = d1

Distance traveled by the heavier fragment before coming to rest= d2 =6.8 m

V4² = V2² + 2a₂d₂

,

(0)^2 = V_2^2 + (2)(-\mu g)d_2

d_2 = \frac{V_2^2}{2 \mu g}

V₃² = V₁² + 2a₁d₁

(0) = (-7V_2)^2 + 2(-\mu g)d_1

d_1 = \frac{49V_2^2}{2 \mu g}

d₁ = 49d₂

d₁ = (49)(6.8)

d₁ = 333.2 m

Distance the lighter fragment slides before stopping = 333.2 m

A spinning disc rotating at 130 rev/min slows and stops 31 s later. how many revolutions did the disc make during this time?
gayaneshka [121]
F = 130 revs/min = 130/60 revs/s = 13/6 revs/s
t = 31s
wi = 2πf = 2π × 13/6 = 13π/3 rads/s
wf = 0 rads/s = wi + at
a = -wi/t = -13π/3 × 1/31 = -13π/93 rads/s²
wf² - wi² = 2a∅
-169π²/9 rads²/s² = 2 × -13π/93 rads/s² × ∅
∅ = 1209π/18 rads
n = ∅/2π = (1209π/18)/(2π) = 1209/36 ≈ 33.5833 revolutions.

A 2 kg ball is moving 3 m/s when it starts rolling up a hill.
AURORKA [14]

Answer:

the height reached is = 0.458 [m]

Explanation:

We need to make a sketch of the ball and see the location of the reference point where the potential energy is zero. But the kinetic energy will be defined by the following expression:

Ek=\frac{1}{2} *m*v^{2} \\where:Ek= kinetic energy [J]\\m = mass of the ball [kg]\\v = velocity of the ball [m/s]

Replacing the values on the equation we have:

Ek=\frac{1}{2}*(2)*(3^{2} )\\ Ek=9[J]\\

This kinetic energy will be transformed in potential energy in the moment when the ball starts to rolling up. Therefore the maximum height reached by the ball depends of the initial velocity given to the ball.

Ek=Ep\\where\\Ep=potential energy [J]\\Ep=m*g*h\\where\\g=gravity = 9.81[m/s^2]\\h=height reached [m]\\

Now we have:

h=\frac{Ep}{m*g} \\h=\frac{9}{2*9.81} \\\\h=0.45 [m]

In that moment when the ball reach the 0.45 [m] the potencial energy will be maximum and equal to the kinetic energy when the ball has a velocity of 3[m/s]

A power station with an efficiency e generates W watts of electric power and dissipates D J of heat energy each second to the co
Andrews [41]

Answer: 13.94 tons/s

Explanation:

On adding heat energy to a substance, the temperature would be changed by a particular amount. This relationship between heat energy and temperature is often different for each material. The specific heat, is a value that describes how they relate.

Heat energy = mass flow rate * specific heat * Δ T

Q = MC (ΔΦ)

Heat energy, Q= 3.5*10^8J

Mass flow rate, M= ?

Specific heat, C= 4184j/KgC

Change in temperature, ΔΦ= 6°C

M = Q/CΔΦ

M = (3.5*10^8)/4184*6

M = 13942kg/s

M = 13.94 tons/s

1) A train accelerates from 36 km/hr to 54 km/hr in 10<br> s. Find acceleration?
Crank

Answer: Given:

Initial velocity= 36km/h=36x5/18=10m/s

Final velocity =54km/h=54x5/18=15m/s

Time =10sec

Acceleration = v-u/ t

=15-10/10=5/10=1/2=0.5 m/s2

Distance =s=?

From second equation of motion:

S=ut +1/2 at^2

=10*10+1/2*0.5*10*10

=100+25

=125m

So distance travelled 125m

Hope it helps you
