Complete question:

A counterclockwise current flows in a rectangular loop of wire in a uniform magnetic field. a) What is the direction of the force that acts on each side of the wire rectangle

Check the image uploaded for the diagram of the current and field.

Answer:

The direction of the force that acts on each side of the wire rectangle is upward.

Explanation:

From Fleming's left hand rule. when the thumb, the index finger and the middle finger are held mutually to each other, with the index finger pointing in the direction of the field, the middle finger pointing in the direction of the current, then the thumb will be pointing in the direction of the force.

Therefore, the direction of the force that acts on each side of the wire rectangle is upward.

Explanation:

In a rectangular loop of wire, a counter-clockwise current flows in a uniform magnetic field pointing towards right.

There are four sides of the rectangular loop ab, bc, cd and da. Lets analyze each side.

Force on section ab:

The force is zero since the wire is parallel to magnetic field

Fab = 0

Force on section bc:

Fbc = BIL

Since the current I is moving upwards and magnetic field is to the right then force F points into the screen.

Force on section cd:

The force is zero since the wire is parallel to magnetic field

Fcd = 0

Force on section da:

Fda = -Fbc

Since the current I is moving upwards and magnetic field is to the right then force F points out of the screen.

The net force acting on the rectangular loop is

Fnet = Fab + Fbc + Fcd + Fda = 0

0 + Fbc + 0 + Fda = 0

Fda = -Fbc

An electric field of intensity 3.7 kN/C is applied along the x-axis. Calculate the electric flux through a rectangular plane 0.3
jekas [21]

Answer:

a)906.5 Nm^2/C

b) 0

c) 742.56132 N•m^2/C

Explanation:

a) The plane is parallel to the yz-plane.

We know that

flux ∅= EAcosθ

3.7×1000×0.350×0.700=906.5 N•m^2/C

(b) The plane is parallel to the xy-plane.

here theta = 90 degree

therefore,

0  N•m^2/C

(c) The plane contains the y-axis, and its normal makes an angle of 35.0° with the x-axis.

therefore, applying the flux formula we get

3.7×1000×0.3500×0.700×cos35°= 742.56132 N•m^2/C

What is inertia?by Walter Levin..<br>
Tom [10]

Inertia is directly proportional to mass.

What is Walter Lewin famous for?

Walter Hendrik Gustav Lewin (born January 29, 1936) is a Dutch astrophysicist and former professor of physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Lewin earned his doctorate in nuclear physics in 1965 at the Delft University of Technology and was a member of MIT's physics faculty for 43 years beginning in 1966 until his retirement in 2009.

According to Walter Levin,

The concept of moment of inertia is demonstrated by rolling a series of cylinders down an inclined plane.

Inertia is the resistance of any physical object to a change in its velocity. This includes changes to the object's speed, or direction of motion. An aspect of this property is the tendency of objects to keep moving in a straight line at a constant speed when no forces act upon them.

By rolling a series of cylinders down on an inclined plane , he demonstrated that a cylinder have a smooth friction.

He compares the rolling cylinder by using hollow cylinder and a heavy cylinder , and finalize the result that a hollow cylinder moves slowly but the heavy cylinder move faster.

Hence , By doing this experiment he explained about the inertia that Inertia depend on the mass of the object. As the heavy the object it will take more time to travel or move.
