A one-dimensional infinite well of length 175 pm contains an electron in its third excited state. We position an electron-detect

or probe of width 3.50 pm so that it is centered on a point of maximum probability density. (a) What is the probability of detection by the probe? (b) If we insert the probe as described 500 times, how many times should we expect the electron to materialize on the end of the probe (and thus be detected)?

Answer:

a. 0.04, b = 40

Explanation:

a. The probability of detection at x is

P(x) = ψ²ₙ(x) dx

P(x) = [(2/L)^1/2 sin((πn/L) x)]² dx

P(x) = 2/Lsin²(πn/L x) dx

Given that

n =31, L = 175pm and dx = 3.5 pm

X = L/2 = 175/2 = 87.5 pm

P(x = L/2) = 2/L sin²(3π/L . L/2) dx

P(x = L/2) = 2/L sin²(3π/2) dx

P(x = L/2) = 2/L dx = (2/175) * 3.5 = 0.04

The probability of detection is 0.04

b. N = 500 independent insertions

N = Np

N = 500 x 0.04 = 40

The electrons should materialize 40 times

Part A : A cylindrical water tank 10cm high and 520cm in diameter is filled with solution with a density of 0.75 g/cm^3
lisov135 [29]

Answer: 0.1066\ psi, 15.611\ kN

Explanation:

Given

the height of the tank is h=10\ cm

The diameter of the tank is d=520\ cm

Density of solution \rho=0.75\ g/cm^3\ or\ 750\ kg/m^3

(a) Water pressure at the bottom of the tank is

P=\rho gh\\P=750\times 9.8\times 0.1\\P=735\ Pa

1\ Pa=0.000145038\ psi

\Rightarrow P=735\ Pa\ or\ 0.1066\ psi

(b) \text{Average force on the bottom is the product of pressure and area of the base}

F_{avg}=735\times \pi \cdot (\frac{520}{200})^2\\\\F_{avg}=735\times 3.142\times 6.76\\F_{avg}=15,611.34\ N\ or\ 15.611\ kN

A mole is defined as the number of atoms in an exact mass of which isotope?
alisha [4.7K]

Answer:

Isotope of carbon-12.

Explanation:

The MOLE  is a unit of measurement of the amount of a pure substance which contains exactly the same number of chemical units which could be (Atoms, molecules etc.) posses atoms in exactly 12 grams of isotope of carbon-12 (i.e., 6.022\times 10^{23}).

So, The mole is the Notation  used for an amount 6.022\times 10^{23}  as same the 12 number is used for dozen for making count of Bananas and many more.

The 6.022\times 10^{23} is known as the fundamental constant names Avogadro's number (N_{A}), It is in the honor of Italian scientist Amedeo Avogadro.

A climber using bottled oxygen accidentally drops the oxygen bottle from an altitude of 4500 m. If the bottle fell straight down
Trava [24]

Answer:

v= 300 m/s

Explanation:

Given that

altitude ,h= 4500 m

The mass ,m = 3 kg

Lets take acceleration due to gravity , g= 10 m/s²

The speed before impact at sea  level =  v

Initial speed ,u = 0 m/s

We know that

v²=u²+2 g h

v=final speed

u=initial speed

h=height

Now by putting the values in the above equation

v² = 0²+ 2 x 10 x 4500

v²=90000

v= 300 m/s

Therefore the speed at sea level will be 300 m/s.

(b) Released from rest at the same height, a can of frozen juice rolls to the bottom of the same hill. What is the translational
Oksanka [162]

Answer:

Explanation:

a) using the energy conservation  equation

mgh = 0.5mv^2 + 0.5Iω^2

I(moment of inertia) (basket ball) = (2/3)mr^2

mgh = 0.5mv^2 + 0.5( 2/3mr^2) ( v^2/r^2)

gh = 1/2v^2 + 1/3v^2

gh = v^2( 5/6)

v =  \sqrt{\frac{6gh}{5} }

putting the values we get

6.6 ^{2} = \frac{6\times9.8h}{5}

solving for h( height)

h = 3.704 m apprx

b) velocity of solid cylinder

mgh = 0.5mv^2 + 0.5( mr^2/2)( v^2/r^2) where ( I ofcylinder = mr^2/2)

g*h = 1/2v^2 + 1/4v^2

g*h = 3/4v^2

putting the value of h and g we get

v= = 6.957 m/s apprx
