Chemistry

Answer:

The correct answer is option 2.

Explanation:

Law of conservation of Mass states that mass can neither be created nor be destroyed but it can only be transformed from one form to another form.

This also means that in a balanced chemical reaction total mass on the reactant side must be equal to the total mass on the product side.

Law of conservation of energy states that energy can neither be created nor be destroyed but it can only be transformed from one form to another form. The total energy of an remains constant in a chemical reaction,.

For example:

2H^++S^{2-}\rightarrow H_2S

Mass of reactants = 2\times 1 g/mol + 1\times 32 g/mol = 34 g/mol

Mass of products = (2\times 1 g/mol+1\times 32 g/mol)=34 g/mol

Charge on reactant side = Charge on product side

2\times (+1) +(-2)=0

0=0

What is the octet rule? What is it based on?
Nimfa-mama [501]

Answer: The octet rule is a chemical rule of thumb that reflects the observation that main group elements tend to bond in such a way that each atom has eight electrons in its valence shell, giving it the same electronic configuration as a noble gas.

1s22s22p63s23p3
what element does this represent
s344n2d4d5 [400]

Answer:

Its phosphorus (P)

Explanation:

In writing the electron configuration for Phosphorus the first two electrons will go in the 1s orbital. Since 1s can only hold two electrons the next 2 electrons for Phosphorous go in the 2s orbital. The next six electrons will go in the 2p orbital. The p orbital can hold up to six electrons. We'll put six in the 2p orbital and then put the next two electrons in the 3s. Since the 3s if now full we'll move to the 3p where we'll place the remaining three electrons. Therefore the Phosphorus electron configuration will be 1s22s22p63s23p3.

How many moles of sand (SiO2) are in 30 g of sand?
anastassius [24]

Answer:

0.50 mol SiO₂

General Formulas and Concepts:

Math

Pre-Algebra

Order of Operations: BPEMDAS

  1. Brackets
  2. Parenthesis
  3. Exponents
  4. Multiplication
  5. Division
  6. Addition

  • Left to Right

Chemistry

Atomic Structure

  • Reading a Periodic Table
  • Using Dimensional Analysis

Explanation:

Step 1: Define

30 g SiO₂ (sand)

Step 2: Identify Conversions

Molar Mass of Si - 28.09 g/mol

Molar Mass of O - 16.00 g/mol

Molar Mass of SiO₂ - 28.09 + 2(16.00) = 60.09 g/mol

Step 3: Convert

  1. Set up: \displaystyle 30 \ g \ SiO_2(\frac{1 \ mol \ SiO_2}{60.09 \ g \ SiO_2})
  2. Multiply/Divide: \displaystyle 0.499251 \ mol \ SiO_2

Step 4: Check

Follow sig figs and round. We are given 2 sig figs.

0.499251 mol SiO₂ ≈ 0.50 mol SiO₂
