First, you would simplify. (I don't know how to type the radical sign, so I'm just going to type radical :))
\sqrt{2} + 1/\sqrt{2}
Then since you can't have a radical as the denominator on the bottom, you would multiply the bottom and top by radical2 on both sides and get:
\sqrt{2} +  \sqrt{2}/2
If you are looking for an exact answer, this would be the answer^^
If you are looking for an approximate answer, the answer would be approx. 2.12132.

Hope this helped :)

x P(x) 0 0.25 1 0.3 2 0.1 3 0.35 Find the standard deviation of this probability distribution. Give your answer to at least 2 de
barxatty [35]

Answer:

The standard deviation of this probability distribution is 1.2.

Step-by-step explanation:

We have that:

P(X = 0) = 0.25

P(X = 1) = 0.3

P(X = 2) = 0.1

P(X = 3) = 0.35

Mean:

Each value multiplied by its probability. So

M = 0*0.25 + 1*0.3 + 2*0.1 + 3*0.35 = 1.55

Variance:

Sum of the squares of the values subtracted from the mean, and multiplied by its probability.

V = 0.25*(0-1.55)^2 + 0.3*(1-1.55)^2 + 0.1*(2-1.55)^2 + 0.35*(3-1.55)^2 = 1.4475

Standard deviation:

Square root of the variance. So

S = \sqrt{V} = \sqrt{1.4475} = 1.2

The standard deviation of this probability distribution is 1.2.

Jake ate 55% of a cake. What fraction of the cake did he eat?
7nadin3 [17]

Answer:

11/20

Step-by-step explanation:

To be able to find the fraction of the cake that Jake ate if you know that he ate 55% of it, you have to turn the 55% into a fraction. To do this, first you have to divide the percent by 100:

55/100

Then, you have to simplify the fraction. In this case, you can do it by dividing by 5:

11/20

According to this, the fraction of the cake that Jake ate is 11/20.
