The side of an Equileteral triangle is 12cm. What is its Area?
elena55 [62]

Answer:

A = 62.35 cm²

Step-by-step explanation:

Use the area formula A = \frac{\sqrt{3}a^2}{4}, where a is the side length.

Plug in the values:

A = \frac{\sqrt{3}(12^2)}{4}

A = \frac{\sqrt{3}(144)}{4}

A = 62.35 cm²

For what values of x is f(x) = |x + 1| differentiable? I'm struggling my butt off for this course
pav-90 [236]

By definition of absolute value, you have

f(x) = |x+1| = \begin{cases}x+1&\text{if }x+1\ge0 \\ -(x+1)&\text{if }x+1

or more simply,

f(x) = \begin{cases}x+1&\text{if }x\ge-1\\-x-1&\text{if }x

On their own, each piece is differentiable over their respective domains, except at the point where they split off.

For <em>x</em> > -1, we have

(<em>x</em> + 1)<em>'</em> = 1

while for <em>x</em> < -1,

(-<em>x</em> - 1)<em>'</em> = -1

More concisely,

f'(x) = \begin{cases}1&\text{if }x>-1\\-1&\text{if }x

Note the strict inequalities in the definition of <em>f '(x)</em>.

In order for <em>f(x)</em> to be differentiable at <em>x</em> = -1, the derivative <em>f '(x)</em> must be continuous at <em>x</em> = -1. But this is not the case, because the limits from either side of <em>x</em> = -1 for the derivative do not match:

\displaystyle \lim_{x\to-1^-}f'(x) = \lim_{x\to-1}(-1) = -1

\displaystyle \lim_{x\to-1^+}f'(x) = \lim_{x\to-1}1 = 1

All this to say that <em>f(x)</em> is differentiable everywhere on its domain, <em>except</em> at the point <em>x</em> = -1.

Which of the following is algebraically equivalent to the sum of 4x^2 -8x +7 And 3x^2-2x-5
VARVARA [1.3K]

All you have to do, is combine like terms. Let's go through it:

(4x^2-8x+7)+(3x^2-2x-5)

Arrange it so you can easily combine like terms:

4x^2+3x^2-8x-2x+7-5 = 7x^2-10x+2

So, your answer for the sum is 1) 7x² - 10x + 2

One positive integer is 5 times another positive integer and their product is 320. What are the positive integers?
seropon [69]

Answer:

The integers are (x, y) = (40, 8).

Step-by-step explanation:

x = 5y

xy = 320

Substitute the first equation into the second equation.

(5y)(y) = 320

5y^2 = 320

y^2 = 64

y = 8 (y must be positive)

The integers are (x, y) = (40, 8).
