What happens in the redox reaction below? Select all that apply.
vladimir2022 [97]

Answer:

B- Sodium loses an electron.

D- Fluorine gains an electron.

Sodium is oxidized.

Explanation:

The reaction equation is given as:

        Na  + F →  NaF

In this reaction, Na is the reducing agent. It loses an electron and then becomes oxidized. By so doing, Na becomes isoelectronic with Neon.

Fluorine gains the electron and then becomes reduced. This makes fluorine also isoelectronic with Neon.

This separation of charges on the two species leads to an electrostatic attraction which forms the ionic bonds.

How do CFC’s illustrate that technical advances can be a “double-edged” sword?
hram777 [196]

Answer:

CFC’s illustrate that technical advances can be a “double-edged” sword as CFC's were made for the advantages but soon or later it came as a disadvantage for environment.

CFC's was discovered with many advantages such as they are stable, non-corrosive, and replacement of harmful ammonia used in refrigerators  and air conditioning systems. But soon it is also discovered that CFC's are destroying  the upper atmosphere layer called ozone, which is a very big disadvantage for us. CFCs are major contributor  to global warming after carbon dioxide.

Hence, it proves that CFC’s shows how technological advancement can be “double-edged” sword.

The air all around us is a mixture of gasses containing nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, argon
KiRa [710]

Answer:

Total pressure = 4.57 atm

Explanation:

Given data:

Partial pressure of nitrogen = 1.3 atm

Partial pressure of oxygen = 1824 mmHg

Partial pressure of carbon dioxide = 247 torr

Partial pressure of argon = 0.015 atm

Partial pressure of water vapor = 53.69 kpa

Total pressure = ?

Solution:

First of all we convert the units other into atm.

Partial pressure of oxygen = 1824 mmHg / 760 = 2.4 atm

Partial pressure of carbon dioxide = 247 torr / 760 = 0.325 atm

Partial pressure of water vapor = 53.69 kpa / 101 = 0.53 atm

Total pressure = Partial pressure of N +  Partial pressure of O +  Partial pressure of CO₂ +  Partial pressure of Ar +  Partial pressure of water vapor

Total pressure = 1.3 atm + 2.4 atm + 0.325 atm + 0.015 atm + 0.53 atm

Total pressure = 4.57 atm

C) If 0.66 mole of iron (III) oxide were produced from the reaction, that must mean that how many mole
Fudgin [204]

Answer:

If there is 0.66 moles of iron(III)oxide produced, there reacte 0.99 moles of oxygen (O2)

Explanation:

Step 1: Data given

Number of moles iron (III) oxide (Fe2O3) = 0.66 moles

Step 2: The balanced equation

4Fe + 3O2 → 2Fe2O3

Step 3: Calculate moles of oxygen (O2)

For 4 moles Fe consumed, we need 3 moles of O2 to produce 2 moles of Fe2O3

For 0.66 moles Fe2O3 produced, we need 3/2 * 0.66 = 0.99 moles of O2

If there is 0.66 moles of iron(III)oxide produced, there reacte 0.99 moles of oxygen (O2)
