In the 1760´s George Grenville was the Prime Minister for Britain and because his country have been involved in a costly war, which was called the Seven Years War. Choice D will be the correct answer because the Prime Minister  wanted the new colonies being established in America to pay for their defense.

George Grenville wanted to desperately improve the economy of his country which was in bad shape after the war effort that lasted seven years. Taxing the new colonies seem like a good solution to get the funds the country needed. Unfortunately, this decision proved to be very costly for Britain because the new colonies were completely opposed to this idea and led to The American Revolution, which finally achieved independence for America from Britain.
