A heating element is made by maintaining a potential difference of 75.0 V across the length of a Nichrome wire that has a 3.83 ×

10–6 m2 cross section. Nichrome has a resistivity of 5.00 × 10–7 Ω·m. (a) If the element dissipates 5200 W, what is its length? (b) If 120 V is used to obtain the same dissipation rate, what should the length be?

Answer:

Explanation:

power of a heating element = V² / R where V is voltage and R is resistance

putting in the values

5200 = 75² / R

R = 1.082 ohm

Formula for resistance

R = ρ L / S , ρ is resistivity , L is length and S is cross sectional area

1.082 = 5 x 10⁻⁷ x L / (3.83 x 10⁻⁶)

L = 8.29 m

b )

power of a heating element = V² / R , R is new resistance

5200 = 120² / R

R = 2.77 ohm

R = ρ L / S , ρ is resistivity , L is length and S is cross sectional area

2.77 = 5 x 10⁻⁷ x L / (3.83 x 10⁻⁶)

L = 21.22 m

Asap. I need an explanaton to how this works as well
bazaltina [42]

Answer:

B: Electrical - Heat

C: Electrical - kinetic

Explanation:

When the hair dryer is plugged to electric supply, electrical energy is converted into heat. When this electricity is circulated through a resistor, heat is now created in the form of losses which make the air around the resistors to be heated.

After that process, this electricity turns into kinetic energy because it forms Electric energy which moves the fan in order to create a flow with the air that's heated.

Consider a 2-kg bowling ball sits on top of a building that is 40 meters tall. It falls to the ground. Think about the amounts o
likoan [24]

Answer:

1) At the highest point of the building.

2) The same amount of energy.

3) The kinetic energy is the greatest.

4) Potential energy = 784.8[J]

5) True

Explanation:

Question 1

The moment when it has more potential energy is when the ball is at the highest point in the building, that is when the ball is at a height of 40 meters from the ground. It is taken as a point of reference of potential energy, the level of the soil, at this point of reference the potential energy is zero.

E_{p} = m*g*h\\E_{p} = 2*9.81*40\\E_{p} = 784.8[J]

Question 2)

The potential energy as the ball falls becomes kinetic energy, in order to be able to check this question we can calculate both energies with the input data.

E_{p}=m*g*h\\ E_{p} = 2*9.81*20\\ E_{p} = 392.4[J]\\

And the kinetic energy will be:

E_{k}=0.5*m*v^{2}\\  where:\\v =  velocity = 19.8[m/s]\\E_{k}=0.5*2*(19.8)^{2}\\  E_{k}=392.04[J]

Therefore it is the ball has the same potential energy and kinetic energy as it is half way through its fall.

Question 3)

As the ball drops all potential energy is transformed into kinetic energy, therefore being close to the ground, the ball will have its maximum kinetic energy.

E_{k}=E_{p}=m*g*h = 2*9.81*40\\  E_{k} = 784.8[J]\\ E_{k} = 0.5*2*(28)^{2}\\ E_{k} = 784 [J]

Question 4)

It can be easily calculated using the following equation

E_{p} =m*g*h\\E_{p}=2*9.81*40\\E_{p} =784.8[J]

Question 5)

True

The potential energy at 20[m] is:

E_{p}=2*9.81*20\\ E_{p}= 392.4[J]\\The kinetic energy is:\\E_{k}=0.5*2*(19.8)^{2} \\E_{k}=392[J]

At a constant temperature, the volume of a gas doubles when the pressure is reduced to half of its original value. This is a sta
djyliett [7]

Answer: Boyle’s law

Explanation:

Boyle's Law: This law states that pressure is inversely proportional to the volume of the gas at constant temperature and number of moles.

P\propto \frac{1}{V}     (At constant temperature and number of moles)

As pressure is decreased to half, the volume is increased to doubled.

Charles' Law: This law states that volume is directly proportional to the temperature of the gas at constant pressure and number of moles.

V\propto T     (At constant pressure and number of moles)

Gay-Lussac's Law: This law states that pressure is directly proportional to the temperature of the gas at constant volume and number of moles.

P\propto T     (At constant volume and number of moles)

Combined gas Law: combining the three laws:

PV\propto T
