A car of mass 1000 kg is moving at 25 m/s. It collides with a car of mass 1200 kg moving at 30 m/s. When the cars collide, they

stick together. What is the total momentum of the system after the collision? What is the total momentum of the system before the collision? What is the velocity of the cars after the collision?

Answer:

The total momentum of the cars before the collision is 61,000 kg.m/s

The total momentum of the cars after the collision is 61,000 kg.m/s

The velocity of the cars after the collision is 27.727 m/s

Explanation:

Given;

mass of the first car, m₁ = 1000 kg

initial velocity of the car, u₁ = 25 m/s

mass of the second car, m₂ = 1200 kg

initial velocity of the second car, u₂ = 30 m/s

The common velocity of the cars after collision = v

The total momentum of the cars before collision is calculated as;

P₁ = m₁u₁  +  m₂u₂

P₁ = (1000 x 25)  +  (1200 x 30)

P₁ = 61,000 kg.m/s

The total momentum of the cars after collision is calculated as;

P₂ = m₁v + m₂v

where;

v    is the common velocities of the cars after collision since they stick together.

P₂ = v(m₁ + m₂)

To determine "v" apply the principle of conservation of linear momentum for inelastic collision.

m₁u₁  +  m₂u₂  = v(m₁  + m₂)

(1000 x 25)  +  (1200 x 30) = v(1000 + 1200)

61,000 = 2,200v

v = 61,000/2,200

v = 27.727 m/s

The total momentum after collsion = v(m₁ + m₂)

                                                         = 27.727(1000 + 1200)

                                                          = 61,000 kg.m/s

Thus, momentum before and after collsion are equal.

A resistor has four colored stripes in the following order: orange, orange, brown and silver. What is the resistance of the resi
zubka84 [21]

Answer:

Resistance =330 Ω

Tolerance = 33 Ω

Explanation:

see attached resistor color code table

The first stripe is orange, which means the leftmost digit is a 3.

The second stripe is orange , which means the next digit is a 3.

The third stripe is brown.  Since brown is 1, it means add one zero to the right of the first two digits.

The resistance is:

orange-orange-brown=  330 Ω

The tolerance is:

The fourth color band indicates the resistor's tolerance.  Tolerance is the percentage of error in the resistor's resistance.

silver is 10%

A 330 Ω resistor has a silver tolerance band.

<em>Tolerance = value of resistor x value of tolerance band </em>

= 330 Ω x 10% = 33 Ω

330 Ω stated resistance +/- 33 Ω tolerance means that the resistor could range in actual value from as much as 363 Ω to as little as 297 Ω.

(TCO 5) The relationship between Celsius (º C) and Fahrenheit (º F) degree of measuring temperature is linear. Find the linear e
gtnhenbr [62]

Answer:

C=-\dfrac{10}{17}(F-32)

Explanation:

Given that

32° F corresponds to 0 °C.  ---Point 1

212° F corresponds to 100 °C.----Point 2

We know that if two point is given that equation of line can be found as

y-y_1=\dfrac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_2}(x-x_1)

Lets C in y- direction and F in x- direction,so we can say that

C-C_1=\dfrac{C_2-C_1}{F_2-F_2}(F-F_1)

C-0=\dfrac{100-0}{32-212}(F-32)

C=-\dfrac{10}{17}(F-32)

So the linear relationship is

C=-\dfrac{10}{17}(F-32)

Capacitances of 10uF and 20uF are connected in parallel,
jarptica [38.1K]

Answer:

The equivalent capacitance will be 15\mu F

Explanation:

We have given two capacitance C_=10\mu F\ and\ C_2=20\mu F

They are connected in parallel

So equivalent capacitance C=C_1+C_2=10+20=30\mu F

This equivalent capacitance is now connected in series with 30\mu F

In series combination of capacitors the equivalent capacitance is given by \frac{1}{C}=\frac{1}{30}+\frac{1}{30}

C=\frac{30}{2}=15\mu F

So the equivalent capacitance will be 15\mu F

The thrust from a car is 2000 N. The air resistance and friction together total 680 N. What happens to the speed of the car?
zheka24 [161]
The car will speed up because if the air resistance and friction forces are reacting in the direction opposite to the Applied force, The Net force will still be in the direction of the car's motion and since F=ma a will cause your velocity to increase
