A large truck of mass 4M is traveling at a speed of V when it collides with a small car of mass M that is at rest. The truck and

car stick together after the collision. When the truck and car stuck together after the collision, the speed of the center of mass of the truck-car system is Vf. If the truck and car have an elastic collision, the speed of the center of mass of the truck-car system is Vf2. Which of the following expressions for Vf2 must be true?
a. 4/5 V
b. 1/5 V
c. V
d. 5/4 V
e. 5V

Answer: (a)

Explanation:

Given

Mass of large truck is 4M with velocity V

Mass of small car is M which is at rest

After the collision car and truck stick together

Conserving momentum

\Rightarrow 4MV+M(0)=5M\times V_f\\\\\Rightarrow V_f=\dfrac{4}{5}V

For elastic collision, the velocity of the center of mass remains the same as the momentum is conserved and there is no acceleration involved.

So, for elastic collision velocity V_f_2=\frac{4}{5}V

A 80 kg parent and a 20 kg child meet at the center of an ice rink. They place their hands together and push. The parent pushes
Ymorist [56]

Answer:

force acting on the parent = 25 N .

Explanation:

According to third law of Newton , there is equal and opposite reaction to every action . Here force by the parent on child is action and the force by child on parent is reaction . The former is given as 25 N so force by child on parent will also be 25 N .

Answer is 25 N .

When the image of an object is seen in a plane mirror, the distance from the mirror to the image depends on?
Readme [11.4K]

When the image of an object is seen in a plane mirror, the distance from the mirror to the image depends on the distance from the object to the mirror.

It is because a Plane Mirror is the incident ray, the reflected ray, and the normal to the surface all lie in the same plane, and the angle of incidence is equal to the angle of reflection. So, the distance from the object to the mirror equals the distance from the image to the mirror. Thus whoever the person viewing this image must sight at this image location.

What is the displacement after 6 seconds when a car is moving at 12m/s and coasts up a hill with a uniform aacceleration of -1.6
MaRussiya [10]
The kinematic formula using displacement, time, initial velocity, and acceleration:
x = v t+.5 a t^2
x= (12m/s)(6s) + .5(-1.6m/s^2)(6s)^2
x= 72m - 28.8m
x = 43.2 m
