A student measures a boiling water bath with two different thermometers. The digital thermometer records the temperature as 100.

2°C and has an uncertainty of 0.1°C. The analog thermometer records the temperature as 99.0°C and has an uncertainty of 0.5°C. What is the percent uncertainty of each thermometer? And what is the percent error given that water boils at 100.0°C?

Answer:

Explanation:

Measurement made = 100.2 °C

uncertainty = 0.1°C

percent uncertainty = .1 x 100 / 100.2

= .099 %

2 nd thermometer :

Measurement made = 99.0 °C

uncertainty = 0.5°C

percent uncertainty = .5 x 100 / 99

= .505  %

Percent error :

1 st thermometer

Error = 100.2 - 100 = .2 °C

measurement = 100.2

percent error = .2 x 100 / 100.2

= .1996 %

2 nd thermometer

Error = 100.00 - 99 = 1.00 °C

measurement = 99

percent error = 1 x 100 / 99

= 1.01  %

The properties of an unknown substance can be compared to the properties of a known substance to identify the unknown substance.
Nitella [24]

Answer:  Physical properties are those that can be determined or measured without changing the composition or identity of the substance. These properties include color, odor, taste, density, melting point, boiling point, conductivity, and hardness.

Explaination:

By using Physical properties unknown substance can be identified as it involves determination of a substance with out changing their composition or property include color, odor, taste, density, melting point etc.

What are the difference between physical and chemical property ?

Chemical properties can be observed or measured when a substance undergoes any type of changes chemically while Physical properties can be observed without changing anything.

In chemical property, chemical reaction is conducted to show the property of the substance while in physical property No chemical reaction occur.

Chemical properties related to chemical bonds while Physical properties do not have such a relationship.

Chemical properties include radioactivity, toxicity, flammability, heat of combustion,  etc. while physical properties include Molecular weight, boiling point, melting point, freezing point, volume, mass, length, density shape, solubility, etc.

Elemental analysis of a compound containing carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, and oxygen gave the following mass percentages for each
svetlana [45]

Elemental analysis of a compound containing carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, and oxygen gave the following mass percentages for each element: C: 42.36% H: 3.555% N: 16.47% O: 37.62% The <em>molar mass</em> of the compound is  Molecular formula = C6H14N2O2 Consider the total mass of the compound =100g Then mass of carbon = 49.30 g Mass of hydrogen = 9.653 g Mass of nitrogen = 19.16 g Mass of oxygen = 21.89 g Molar mass of carbon = 12.0 g/mol

<h3>What is molar mass ?</h3>

In chemistry, the molar mass of a chemical compound is determined by dividing its mass by the molecular weight of the component that makes up the sample. The molar mass of a substance is a bulk attribute rather than a molecular one. The compound's molar mass is an average over numerous samples, which frequently have different masses because of isotopes. A terrestrial average and a function of the relative abundance of the isotopes of the constituent atoms on Earth, the molar mass is most frequently calculated using the standard atomic weights. For converting between a substance's mass and amount in bulk amounts, the molar mass is the proper unit.
