Enzymes are catalysts in living things, including in the molds and bacteria that cause the spoiling reactions that decompose foo

d. Use your knowledge of reaction rates to explain why food doesn’t rot as fast when it is covered and refrigerated. For full credit identify two different factors and explain how they are slowing down the reaction.
I already have that the cold temperature will slow down the reaction, and I'm sure the covering has something to do with it, but I'm not sure what the factor could be. I think my answer has to be one of the factors we learned in class (which are catalyst, concentration, surface area, and temperature).

How does a sample of helium at 15 degree Celsius compare to a sample of helium at 215 K?
Nadusha1986 [10]
The answer is A.
215K is equivalent to -58.15 °C and temperature corresponds with the average kinetic energy.
So the 15°C has a higher energy level than 215K.

The molecules CH4 and CH3Cl both have tetrahedral shapes. Why is CH4 nonpolar whereas CH3Cl is polar?
ruslelena [56]
Because in CH4 the valence electrons of Carbon are being pulled away from the nucleus with the same force (since all hydrogen has the same electronegativity).So charges are equally distributed throughout the atom and the atom is non-polar. In CH3Cl Cl has a different electronegativity than H, so charges aren't equally distributed and therefore the molecule is polar.

How much energy is required to change the temperature of 35.0 g of Lead
Nezavi [6.7K]

Answer:

Q = 270 Joules (2 sig. figs. as based on temperature change.)

Explanation:

Heat Transfer Equation of pure condensed phase substance => Q = mcΔT

Mixed phase (s ⇄ l melting/freezing, or l ⇄ g boiling/condensation) heat transfer equation => Q = m∙ΔHₓ; ΔHₓ = phase transition constant

Since this is a pure condensed phase (or, single phase) form of lead (Pb°(s)) and not melting/freezing or boiling/condensation, one should use

Q = m·c·ΔT

m = mass of lead = 35.0g

c = specific heat of lead = 0.16J/g°C

ΔT = Temp change = 74°C - 25°C = 49°C

Q = (35.0g)(0.16J/g·°C )(49°C) = 274.4 Joules ≅ 270 Joules (2 sig. figs. as based on temperature change.)
