The question seems incomplete the complete question is given below

Two 3 kg bodies, A and B, collide. The velocities before the collision are A = (32 i + 41 j) m/s and B = (31 i + 3.2 j) m/s. After the collision, velocity of A = (7.9i + 11 j) m/s. What are (a) the x-component and (b) the y-component of the final velocity of B

Answer:

x- component (Vb)final = 55.1ms^-1

y- component (Vb)final = 33.2 ms^-1

Explanation:

a) On applying law of conservation of momentum

initial momentum = final momentum

for x - component we take the coefficients of i from the given data

(Ma*Va)initial + (Mb*Vb)initial = (Ma*Va)final + (Mb*Vb)final

since Ma = Mb= 3

so it will cancel out in the equation

(Va)initial + (Vb)initial = (Va)final + (Vb)final

32 + 31 = 7.9 + (Vb)final

(Vb)final = 55.1ms^-1

b) for the y-component we take the component of j from the data.

(Ma*Va)initial + (Mb*Vb)final = (Ma*Va)final + (Mb*Vb)final

41+3.2 = 11 + (Vb)final

(Vb)final = 33.2 ms^-1

If two objects A and B have the same kinetic energy but A has three times the momentum of B, what is the ratio of their inertias
Thepotemich [5.8K]

Answer:

\frac{inertia_B}{inertia_A}=9

Explanation:

First of all, let's remind that:

- The kinetic energy of an object is given by K=\frac{1}{2}mv^2, where m is the mass and v is the speed

- The momentum of an object is given by p=mv

- The inertia of an object is proportional to its mass, so we can write I=km, where k just indicates a constant of proportionality

In this problem, we have:

- K_A = K_B (the two objects have same kinetic energy)

- p_A = 3 p_B (A has three times the momentum of B)

Re-writing both equation we have:

\frac{1}{2}m_A v_A^2 = \frac{1}{2}m_B v_B^2\\m_A v_A = 3 m_B v_B

If we divide first equation by second one we get

v_A = 3 v_B

And if we substitute it into the first equation we get

m_A (3 v_B)^2 = m_B v_B^2\\9 m_A v_B^2 = m_B v_B^2\\m_B = 9 m_A

So, B has 9 times more mass than A, and so B has 9 times more inertia than A, and their ratio is:

\frac{I_B}{I_A}=\frac{km_B}{km_A}=\frac{9m_A}{m_A}=9

The 1.5kg ball is launched straight upward with an initial velocity of 7m/s. What is the maximum height it will reach?
Temka [501]

Answer:

h = 2.5 m

Explanation:

Given that,

Mass of a ball, m = 1.5 kg

Initial velocity of the ball, u = 7 m/s

We need to find the maximum height reached by the ball. Let it is be h. Using the conservation of energy to find it such that,

mgh=\dfrac{1}{2}mu^2\\\\h=\dfrac{u^2}{2g}

Put all the values,

h=\dfrac{7^2}{2\times 9.8}\\\\=2.5\ m

So, it will reach to a height of 2.5 m.
