Roughly about 6,000 to 7,000 of women diagnosed with HIV give birth every year. Since the beginning of the HIV/AIDS epidemic about 15,000 children U.S. have been infected with HIV and 3,000 children have passed. About 90% of those women had the HIV virus during pregnancy or birth.
